PHOTOS: Tewksbury's Community Safe Halloween

Despite a one-week delay, hundreds of children turned out to participate.

Hundreds of children and their families gathered at the Saunders Recreation Complex for the annual Community Safe Halloween celebration. The Police Department was on hand with vehicles and a K-9 demonstration, as was the Fire Department and DPW. The National Guard also made an appearance. The event was organized by a committee led by Tewksbury Safety Officer Jennie Welch. There were games and activities for the kids and, of course, no shortage of creative costumes. Editor Bill Gilman was on hand and captured these images.

Trick-or-treating in Tewksbury may have been postponed but the students at the Trahan School had the chance to show off their wildest get-ups at the annual costume parrade at the school on Friday.

Treats For Troops Extended Due To Trick-or-Treat Postponement

Leftover candy can go to a great cause.

Due to the postponement of Halloween trick-or-treating due to the storm and power outages, the Treats For Troops Program has been extended. Candy will be collected at Tewksbury schools on Wednesday, Nov. 9 from 3 to 5 p.m.. Also, a _collection bin is set up at Town Hall _through Veterans Day, Nov. 11. The candy will be sent to our men and women in the armed services though the Wilmington-based group Local Heroes.

Which kid in America has the most creative Halloween costume in the pumpkin patch? That's what we intend to find out with your photos and the help of celebrity judge Heidi Klum, who will select the Grand Prize winner. Patch will whisk the winner to New York or Los Angeles for a three-day, two-night trip for two that includes a meet and greet with Heidi, plus a donation of $1,031 to a local charity of the winner's choice. UPDATED: Latest On Power Restoration, Community Safe Halloween Rescheduled

National Grid provides new timetable to getting power back on in Tewksbury.

UPDATED: Monday, 4 p.m. More repair crews are gathering in Massachusetts to help restore power to hundreds of thousands of residents still without power from the historic Snowtober storm over the weekend. According to National Grid President Marcy Reed, crews from Virginia, Texas Kentucky and Kansas are enroute to join crews from Ohio, Michigan and North Carolina in helping the local workers. The company currently has more than 1,200 workers restoring power across the state. Once those additional crews arrive, there will likely be more than 1,800 workers on the job. Around 10,400 Tewksbury homes and businesses lost power Saturday night or Sunday morning. Several thousand south Tewksbury residents had power restored today. However, between …

Gather Your Posse! Trick-orTreat And Catch Desperadoes

Library event, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. is an excellent addition to (or substitute for) Trick-of-Treating amid the blackout.

Yee-haw! Saddle up, pardner! Gather your posse and head to the _Tewksbury Public Library _from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today for a fun, safe Halloween event. Kids dressed in costume today can Trick-or-Treat at all three of the service desks, plus they can help track down the members of the Chandler Street -- seven of the most desperate (and silly) desperadoes this side of the Shawsheen River! Search the library and find each member of the gang to earn a reward! October Storm Forces Cancellation Of Safe Halloween Event

Possibility exists that it could be rescheduled for next weekend.

Tewksbury Police Department officials have announced that the Community Safe Halloween event scheduled for Sunday at the Saunders Recreation Complex has been called off due to the bizarre early season snowstorm pushing through the region. The National Weather Service has declared a winter storm warning through 8 a.m. Sunday. Snow accumulation of up to eight inches is expected. Winds of 15-25 mph, coupled with heavy wet snow makes power outage In an email forwarded to the media by Police Chief Timothy Sheehan, Safety Officer Jennie Welch, who is organizing Safe Halloween, said there is a possibility that the event may be rescheduled for Sunday, Nov. 7. If the event is rescheduled, Tewksbury Patch will publish that information.

Senior Center To Celebrate Halloween, Elks To Celebrate Thanksgiving

The Tewksbury/Wilmington Elks will hold its Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Tewksbury Senior Citizens on Thursday, November 10th. The event will be held at the Elks from 6-11 PM with dinner served at 7:00 PM. Tickets are free and will be distributed to Tewksbury Seniors this Thursday, October 27th beginning at 9:00 A.M.  Please keep in mind that we limit the tickets one can get as follows: a single person can get one more ticket; and, a couple can get tickets for another couple. This seems to be the fairest way to distribute these tickets. The Friends will hold its Halloween dance this Friday, October 28th from 7:00 to 10:30 PM at the Senior Center.  Tickets are available now and at the door at $10 per person.
