Is it really necessary to have five police officers directing traffic on Livingston Street in North Tewksbury? I certainly appreciate police presence but while one officer motioned for me to go, about 20 feet up ahead, another officer yelled at my and asked me "what my problem was" when he told me to stop after I was motioned to go. I'm confused--I got the green light to move forward at 10 miles …   more ›

Winter Weather Update

Wild Winter Winds Expected Today

Wind gusts of nearly 50 miles per hour could make conditions hazardous in Tewksbury.

Tewksbury residents are bracing themselves as strong winds are expected to whip through the region throughout Friday. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for eastern Massachusetts Friday. A rainy and foggy morning is expected to give way to partly sunny skies in the afternoon, but don't let that fool you. UPDATED 12:30 A.M. About 25 percent of the town was without power for about two hours Friday, as a storm featuring high winds and heavy rain ripped through the region. While the storm didn't do the same level of damage it had the day before in Connecticut, its impact was clearly felt. According to David Graves, a spokesman from National Grid, more than 3,300 customers had lost power between 10:35 a.nm. to 12:30 p.m. Another 2,200 cutomers just over the border in Andover also lost power. Most of the damage was done by falling tree limbs snapping power lines due to high winds. "We were getting gusts of over 40 miles an hour," said Graves. "The rain by itself didn't do any damage but the wind was taking down a lot of trees." By 5 p.m., all …
