State representative releases press release outlining budget passed by House of Representatives.

State Representative Miceli joined his colleagues in the Massachusetts House of Representatives yesterday in passing a balanced FY ’14 budget focused on increased government accountability and oversight across the Commonwealth. Through this budget, by increasing Chapter 70 funding by $5.3M, the House strengthens the state’s commitment to cities and towns that are paying more than their target local contribution. The $34 Billion budget ensures over $1 Billion will remain in the state’s Rainy Day Fund. Rep. News is mixed as Legislative delegation meets with Board of Selectmen.
Local Legislators were cautiously optimistic when discussing local aid with Tewksbury officials this week. State Rep. Jim Miceli, state Sen. Barry Finegold, outgoing state Rep. Paul Adams and state Rep. Jim Lyons met Tuesday with the Board of Selectmen to discus the fiscal health of the state, the governor's proposed cuts in Local Aid for Fiscal Year 2013 and projections for FY 2014. Miceli told selectmen that given current revenue projections, he doesn't foresee any cuts to local aid in FY '14. Tewksbury was slated to receive roughly $15.5 million for the current fiscal year. Updated at 10:31 p.m.: After a long campaign, Rep. Jim Miceli used his victory speech to supporters for a parting shot to challenger Doug Sears. "If you take Tewksbury and you take Wilmington, they don’t buy into dirty campaigning. I’m not going to be humble like I’ve been in the past," said Miceli, who never referred to Sears by name. Sun declined to endorse a candidate for the 19th Middlesex District due to the negative tone of the race.
The Lowell Sun newspaper may have finally found something that state Rep. Jim Micelli and Tewksbury Selectman Doug Sears agree on. The rivals in the race for the seat from the 19th Middlesex District both feel that the Sun's decision not to endorse a candidate in the race was unwarranted. In announcing their endorsements in the State Legislative races earlier this week, the Sun took the unusual step of refusing to endorse either Miceli, the 18-term incumbent from Wilmington, or his Republican challenger Sears. Letter to the Editor, I have known Representative James Miceli for approximately thirty-five years. He is one of the most dedicated, tenacious, honest and compassionate advocates for his constituents that I have ever witnessed in any form of government. All these years, he has demonstrated the highest level of integrity. The fire that has burned within him in fighting for Tewksbury and Wilmington has never diminished. In my tenure as Chief of Police in Tewksbury, it was my honor and pleasure to work with Representative Miceli on numerous issues. To the Editor: I am writing this letter in support of both Jim Miceli and Jim Lyons for State Representative. I have known Jim Miceli for a long time. I met Jim Lyons about 3 months ago when he was going door-to-door through my neighborhood. When I was on the Board of Selectmen my Number One complaint was that the Cities and Towns were NOT getting their fair share of Local Aid. Time and time again I saw jobs being created at the State Level and monies that should have been coming to Tewksbury being siphoned off for more and more administrative and non-productive jobs. That is why I am endorsing both Jim Miceli and Jim Lyons for State Rep in Tewksbury. Both men are committed to forcing the State to provide more Local Aid to its Towns…

Tewksbury is down $2,000,000 in state local aid to Tewksbury on Democrat Miceli`s watch over the past two years. With the Miceli/Patrick leadership it is highly doubtful Tewksbury will have the funds from that source to fund $700,000 + Local 1647 firefighters overtime in FY 2015.
