Two big wins for Tewksbury High sports teams.

Jeff Giasullo Win 4&3 North Andover's number 1 defeated Tewksbury's Tyler Slavin 3&2 after Slavin fought hard to get to the fifth hole 1 down. A long range birdie putt from off the green for Brown put Slavin 2 down and he went on to win the match on the seventh hole. "Tyler's a great kid who is a really good golfer and works tremendously hard at it and has just been snake bitten lately against some very good players. He will bounce back and be back where he usually is." Number 2 Jeff Giasullo has been playing very good for us lately and he continued that excellent play again today …

TMHS Golfers Qualify For State Tournament

Redmen dump Dracut, 12.5-7.5, will play in post season for third consecutive year.

Revenge doesn't get much sweeter than the kind the Tewksbury High golf team tasted Wednesday afternoon. Not only did the Redmen avenge an earlier loss to Merrimack Valley Conference rival Dracut with a 12.5-7.5 win at Trull Brook golf course, but the win qualified Tewksbury for its third straight trip to the MIAA Divison 2 golf championships next month. "This was a great win for our players and for our program," said TMHS coach Jim Sullivan. "Our goal has been met. But there are still several more on the table." As has been the case in several other matches this year, Wednesday's match came down to the final group, where a pair of relatively inexperiened Redmen came up big. With the score tied at 7.5 each after the first three groups had …

TMHS Golfers Suffer A Setback

Dracut prevails in important MVC divisional match-up.

The battle for superiority in the Merrimack Valley Conference Division 3 golf standings got a little complicated on Monday as Dracut High School handed the Tewksbury High golfers their first loss of the season, 13.5-6.5, at Hickory Hill Country Club. "This was a chance for us to see where we stood in the MVC Division 3 with Methuen and Dracut, unfortunately now all three teams have beaten one another and everyone is 1-1 against each other," said Tewksbury coach Jim Sullivan. Tewksbury held its own in the first group as No. 1 player Tyler Slavin won two up, and Mike Casey lost, 4 and 3. The pair halved the best ball point and the match was tied 2.5-2.5 after one group had finished. Juniors Pat Doherty and Derek Petti kept the Redmen right …

UPDATED: TMHS Golfers Rally; Volleyball Bounces Back

Hunter, Muise come through under pressure as Redmen improve to 2-0; volleyball picks up first win of the season.

The game of golf is widely considered to be an individual sport, except in high school, where any and all of the eight players in the line-up can make a big difference. Eric Hunter and Ryan Muise proved that point at Methuen's expense on Monday, taking four of the final five points of the match to give the Tewksbury High Redmen a dramatic, 11-9 Merrimack Valley Conference win over the Rangers at Trull Brook Country Club. No. 7 Hunter and No. 8 Muise, both juniors with little or no prior varsity golf experience, needed to make up a lot of ground playing in the final foursome of the day. But the two varsity newcomers did just that. Muise, playing in his first-ever varsity match, easily handled Methuen's Curtlis LeBlanc, four and three. His …

TMHS Golf Team's Fate Rests In the Hands Of Its Juniors

Redmen set sights on qualifying for the state tournament for third straight year.

With two-time MVP Ryan Doherty off to prep school and only one returning senior on the team, the 2011 edition of the Tewksbury Memorial High School golf team will rely heavily on its junior class this fall. Tyler Slavin and Mike Casey, both juniors, will be the No. 1 and 2 players on the team, while classmates Patrick Doherty, Derek Petti and Sean Thomann will also figure in a starting line-up that includes only one senior. "We graduated five out of our eight starters, and most of them had been playing for at least two years," said TMHS co-coach Jim Sullivan. "So we're going to be counting heavily on some younger guys to step up and improve their game." Four other starters -- Craig Semenza, Mark Petti, Ryan Casey and Brian Donohue -- …
