The Tewksbury Education Foundation (TEF) is pleased to announce that their donation of $24,750 was approved by the Tewksbury School Committee. These monies represent funds raised at the School-Wide Auction held on November 15, 2012 at the Tewksbury Country Club. Superintendent of Schools Dr. John O’Connor provided the TEF a Technology Funding Request based upon the Administration's needs throughout the Tewksbury School District. State windfall puts plans on the fast-track.
Plans to install a multi-purpose artificial turf field at the new athletics complex being built adjacent to Tewksbury High School are alive and well. A $250,000 state grant has put plans for the turf surface back on the front burner. The next move will be up to Tewksbury voters at the Special Town Meeting (just prior to the Annual Town Meeting) in May. "I've put two articles on the Special Town Meeting warrant," said Town Manager Richard Montuori. One of those articles would ask voters to approve the use of a certain amount of Community Preservation Act funds toward the field project. The second article would call for the use of Stabilization Fund monies. Combined with credit the town is due for certain parts of the high school project, …

Issue is on the agenda for the next School Committee meeting.
As the new Tewksbury High School was being planned and constructed, one of the things school department officials were looking forward to was having a gymnasium large enough to host a graduation ceremony. However, some members of the TMHS Class of 2013 say the new gym isn't big enough and they would like to see the June 7 ceremony moved outdoors, to Doucette Field. Earlier this month, seniors John Froio, Christian Taylor and a handful of other students attended a Tewksbury School Committee meeting to share their concerns and a petition signed by around 200 students. Former chairman of the Dover, NH School Committee has been arrested.
Tewksbury Superintendent of Schools Dr. John O'Connor is one of 13 people allegedly bilked out of hundreds of thousands of dollars by the former chairman of the Dover, NH School Committee in a Ponzi scheme. According to a press release issued by the New Hampshire Department of Justice, Nicholas C. Skaltsis, of Dover, New Hampshire was arrested and on 19 felony counts of theft for allegedly operating a fraudulent investment scheme. Skaltsis allegedly solicited a number of people, mostly friends, in the Dover area to invest in the purchase of distressed residential properties. Skaltsis allegedly told the investors he was using their funds to restore and then "flip" the properties. According to the NH Dept. of Justice, Skaltsis promised a 14 …

The Tewksbury Public Schools will host a “Silent and Live Auction” on November 15, 2012 from 7:00 – 11:00 P.M. at the Tewksbury Country Club. The auction will benefit technology throughout the school district. The goal is to raise sufficient funds to create wireless environments in our schools (K-8). Committee presents its findings to the Board of Selectmen.
Back in 2006, a report was commissioned (and $119,000 spent) on the town's school building needs. Five years later, the School Facilities Study Committee has revisted the findings outlined in that report and has come to the conclusion that not much has changed. The committee, made of of School Department administrators, teachers, parents and a representative from both the Board of Selectmen and School Committee unveiled their findings in a Power Point presentation at the Selectmen's meeting Tuesday night. District scores surpass the state average in most subjects and grade level.
The schools of the Tewksbury School District showed improvement and scored at or above the state average across the board on the 2012 MCAS exams. Assistant Superintendent of Schools Dr. Patricia Lally presented the grade-by-grade results at the School Committee meeting on Sept. 19 at the Wynn School. "The scores we have now are just general," said Lally. "We’ll be doing a more complete report on MCAS in the future. (Individual scores) will be going out to parents Tuesday (Sept. 25). These (scores) show that we have surpassed or done better than the state (average) on a number of subjects." O'Connor receives word that the Tewksbury Public Schools will not be downgraded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
With apologies to Mark Twain, news of the Tewksbury Public Schools' demise has been greatly exaggerated. Contrary to published reports from earlier this week, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (MDESE) will not be downgrading the school department from Level 2 to Level 3 status due to poor MCAS exam schools in recent years. On the contrary, Superintendent of Schools Dr. John O'Connor told the School Committee at its meeting on Wednesday, that he had just received preliminary notification from MDESE that the Tewksbury School District would remain at Level 2. Superintendent Dr. John O'Connor wants to remind people that the new school is still off limits for the time being.
As Tewksbury gets ready for the start of the new school year, students, parents, staff and the public at-large are anxious to get a look at the new Tewksbury High School. However, Superintendent of Schools Dr. John O'Connor is asking the public to steer clear of the building for the time-being, while finishing touches are put on the $67 million complex. Brenda Theriault-Regan settles into her new job but can't yet settle into her new office.
Brenda Theriault-Regan has long believed that successful education is about building strong, productive relationships. She is looking to build new relationships and grow existing ones, as she begins her first year as principal of Tewksbury Memorial High School. For Theriault-Regan, it's a dream job at a perfect time. 'You have your 'bucket list' of things to do in life and for me, being an educator or administrator at the high school was definitely one of those things," she said.
