Tewksbury Police Officers To Visit Boy With Cancer

More than 40 police departments left the Burlington Mall this morning to deliver cards to 6-year-old Nathan Norman in Rustburg, Virginia.

The only thing on Dawn Norman's wish list this holiday season is that her 6-year old son Nathan lives to see another Christmas—and that his wish of receiving cards, letters and patches from as many police officers, fire fighters and EMTs is fulfilled. Why? Because police officers, fire fighters and EMTs happen to be Nathan's heroes. As reported on New Milford Patch three years ago, Nathan, who lives with his family in Rustburg, Virginia, was diagnosed with brain cancer. "I remember the doctor saying that there was an abnormality," Dawn Norman remembers. "The doctor kept telling me over and over that there was an abnormality and then it hit me. Tewksbury Remembers Victims of Newtown Shooting at Candlelight Vigil

Candlelight Vigil attracts nearly 150 residents.

Nearly 150 Tewksbury residents dropped what they were doing on Saturday night to gather on the Tewksbury Town Common for a Candlelight Vigil in memory of the victims of the Newtown, Conn. school shooting. The event was organized by residents Trish Bourne and Kelly Joyce. "We can't just curl up into a ball," said Bourne. "We can't just shut off the Christmas lights and say 'That's it.' We (have to) go on. We have to take pause and we have to say a prayer and we've got to keep the people of Newtown, Conn. in our hearts." Assembly of God To Present Living Nativity Tonight and Saturday

Annual event gives visitors a chance to step back in time to the birth of Jesus of Nazareth.

(Editor's note: The following information was submitted by the Assembly of God Church.) The Lowell Assembly of God will be hosting its Annual Drive-Thru Living Nativity again this year, on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14 & 15, from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Approximately 50 of our church folks will be manning one of six stations, consisting of We would like to take you back in time that night so long ago, to relive what it must have been like to see this take place. You don’t even have to leave your car to see everything. You can park your car and walk through again and also see the area of animals, or even take your picture in the Manger with Baby Jesus, Mary and Joseph. A special note of thanks is extended to all those who helped with the weekend activities at the Senior Center. As always your help is appreciated and lends to the success of our events. Edwards Brothers Are Bringing Their Holiday Show To The Senior Center

The latest events and news from the Tewksbury Senior Center.

Please note that due to other community events the Senior Center Sunday Breakfast scheduled for this coming Sunday, December 2nd  has been CANCELLED. Mike McDermott shall hold the Mens Group at the Senior Center this Thursday, November 29th at 9:00 AM.  Why not come on down and have a cup of coffee and chat with the guys...its a great group. The Festival of Trees at the Tewksbury Library will be held this Friday, November 30th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  The evening includes several chorus groups, tree displays and fun for the youngsters.  It should be noted that tree displays can be seen throughout the month of December during regular Library hours.  Look for the Senior Center tree...its has another “different look” this year.  At 7:00 PM this…

Cancer Survivor Making The Most of Life, Making a Difference

Susan Appleby gets state to recognize November as Lung Cancer Awareness Month

Susan Appleby knows it's no accident that she has survived four-and-a-half years after being diagnosed with Stage 3B Lung Cancer. She knows she's blessed and she wanted to make sure she didn't waste that blessing. So the Tewksbury resident has been using all of the resources available to her to educate people about lung cancer and the risk factors associated with it. As part of that campaign, Appleby successfully lobbied the Legislature and Gov. Deval Patrick to declare November "Lung Cancer Awareness Month" in Massachusetts. "About three months ago I decided there must be a reason I'm still around. I wanted to get involved," said Appleby. "I'm one of the lucky ones." A candlelight vigil at the Tewksbury 9/11 Memorial attracted more than 300 residents Tuesday night. The event marked the 11th Anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 Americans, including Tewksbury residents Peter Hashem and Peter Gay, Music was provided by the Tewksbury High band and singer Michael Lally. Speakers included Fred Simon, former chairman of the Tewksbury 9/11 Memorial Committee and Larissa Gay, daughter of Peter Gay. Editor Bill Gilman compiled this video report of the event.

Tewksbury Ready To Celebrate Fourth Of July In Grand Style

Games, food, fun, music, fireworks and free Patch T-shirts!

Plans are in place for Tewksbury's annual Fourth of July Celebration at the Saunders Recreation Complex on Livingston Street. This year's celebration promises to be better than ever, with games and activities for the children and adults, lots of food and fun and live music leading up to an awesome fireworks display in the evening. And new this year -- Tewksbury Patch has joined forces with the Tewksbury Community Food Pantry to give away FREE Patch T-shirts. All you have to do is donate a non-perishable food item at the Patch/Food Pantry table at the event and you will get a free Patch T-shirt. This has been a challenging year for the Food Pantry, which helps out around 250 local families, as donations have been down. Anything you can do …

Senior Center To Host Benefit Breakfast on Sunday

Giant yard sale is planned for July.

A Friends dance will be held this Friday, June 8that 7:00 PM. Tickets are $10 per person and available at the door. Entertainment for the evening is the Fred Manzi Band. The Seniors will hold a Breakfast Benefit this Sunday, June 10th, from 7:30 to 11:00 AM. The menu includes: pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, homefries, beans, toast and beverages. Adult tickets are $6, children 12 and under $3 and toddlers free. A note of thanks is extended to all those who helped in making the Showcase of Creativity art show a success and to all those who made donations to the Country Store.
