Stunner In Stoneham! Redmen Boys Hockey Ousted By Watertown, 3-2

Tewksbury High dominated play but were doomed by a red-hot goalie.

Division 2 North First round Watertown 3, Tewksbury 2 Those who know hockey well will tell you that goaltending can be the great equalizer, especially in a single-elimination tournament. The Tewksbury High boys hockey team dominated play in their Division 2 North Tournament game against Watertown, Tuesday night in Stoneham. But despite a whopping 47-16 edge in shots on goal, the Redmen were eliminated, 3-2. The difference in the game was the play of Watertown goaltender Anthony Busconi, who made one spectacular stop after another and finished with 45 saves. Trailing 1-0, Tewksbury tied the game in the second period on a goal by Collin Quinn, assisted by Ryan Meade and Mike Casey. But Watertown, seeded 13th, managed to pull ahead again and …

Reading Gets Revenge, Beats Tewksbury, 42-6

Tewksbury failed to upset Reading for the second consecutive year in the Division 2 Semifinal game.

In a rematch of last year’s Eastern Mass. Division 2 Semifinal, the Reading High Rockets got their revenge over Tewksbury with a 42-6 dismantling of the Redmen at Reading High last night. “We definitely had revenge on our mind this year and we were clicking on all cylinders,” said Reading quarterback Drew Belcher, whose incredible night led the Rockets to improve to 12-0 on the season. Belcher completed nine passes for 126 yards and a touchdown, and rushed nine times for 105 yards and four touchdowns. “We worked all offseason to come back and make it to this game,” said receiver Ryan Maney. “They pretty much beat our butt last year,” said the Gronk-like pass catcher who hauled in five catches for 87 yards and had a 61-yard rushing …

Redmen Are Super Bowl Bound! [video]

Tewksbury High football team storms into Reading and dominates the Rockets, 21-6.

Three short months ago, it would have been difficult to find anyone who thought the Tewksbury High football team was going anywhere this season. On Saturday, the Redmen are going to Gillette Stadium to play in the MIAA Division 2 Super Bowl against unbeaten Duxbury (12-0). Game time is 3:30 p.m. Led by stellar efforts from their three senior tri-captains -- quarterback Kevin Saunders, running back Chris Bettano and linebacker Derek Tarpey -- coach Brian Aylward's Tewksbury High Redmen once again played the role of giant killers Tuesday night, storming into Reading to steam-roll the heavily favored Rockets, 21-6 in an Eastern Mass Divison 2 playoff game. Bettano carried 21 times for 75 yards and a touchdown, and also caught an 11-yard …

Running High On Adrenalin, Redmen Head To Reading For MIAA Playoff Game

Tewksbury High football team will face Middlesex League champion Reading High on the Rockets' home field Tuesday night at 7:30.

It's a new experience and a whole new feeling for the Tewksbury High Redmen. The TMHS football team will be playing in an MIAA post-season game for the first time in 15 years when the Redmen travel to Reading tomorrow night to face Reading High in a MIAA Division 2 Eastern Mass playoff game. The winner of the game will go on to represent Eastern Mass in the Division 2 Super Bowl Dec. 3 at Gillette Stadium. "It's a little bit different than what we're used to at this time of year," said Tewksbury High coach Brian Aylward. "The kids are chomping at the bit and ready to go. It's a new experience but the kids are fired up to go out and play." Reading High, which was chosen to host this playoff game long before its football team qualified for …

North Andover Ousts TMHS Volleyballers, 3-1 [video]

Redmen are eliminated in the first round of the MIAA Division 1 North Sectional tournament.

The problem with qualifying for MIAA post season play is that if you run into a team with a hot hand and lose a match, it's one-and-done and your season is over. Such was the case for the Tewksbury High girls volleyball team Tuesday night as the Redmen bumped up against a rock solid North Andover team in the first round of the state tournament, and saw the most successful season in the history of Tewksbury High volleyball come to an abrupt end. "I think we played as well as we could have," said TMHS coach Jim Ray after his team was eliminated, 3-1, by the Scarlet Knights. "North Andover came in here (seeded) No. 5 and we were No. 4, and you couldn't have asked for a better pairing for a game like this." It was certainly a match worth the …

Volleyballers Win First Ever MVC Div. 2 Title

Tewksbury blanks Dracut, 3-0, to capture first Merrimack Valley Conference Division 2 volleyball championship in school history.

Make some room on the gymnasium wall. There's a new banner going up where none has gone before. The Tewksbury High girls volleyball team made school history Tuesday night, beating Dracut, 3-0 at the Merrimack Valley Conference jamboree night in Lawrence, capturing their first-ever MVC Division 2 championship in the process. "I'm ecstatic for these girls," said TMHS coach Jim Ray. "After the (early season upset) loss to Notre Dame, they were determined to make something of this season, and they did it. We set the bar at a certain height but these girls challenged themselves to go beyond that, and they did it" Tuesday night's win over Dracut was the team's 14th victory of the season (versus four losses) and that was also a milestone, setting…

Volleyballers Beat Wilmington, Qualify For State Tournament Play

TMHS volleyball team will return to MIAA tournament for the second straight year.

It may not have been his team's most electrifying performance of the season, but Tewksbury High volleyball coach Jim Ray was more than satisfied with his team's 3-0 win at Wilmington Wednesday night, especially considering that the victory earned  the Redmen a spot in the MIAA state volleyball tournament for the second straight year. "It wasn't the prettiest match, but we'll take it," said Ray after his team secured its ninth win of the season, guaranteeing the team a tournament spot based on winning at least 50 percent of its 18 games. "We definitely played to their level and we had to dig ourselves out of a couple holes, but we're in the state tournament again, so we'll take it." Tewksbury won all three sets by identical 25-20 scores. …
