Tewksbury Memorial Day Celebrations Honor Our Veterans

Memorial Day in Tewksbury kicked off with a ceremony at the Tewksbury Cemetery to honor and veterans and continued with the annual Memorial Day parade.

With the sun peeking out from behind the clouds for the first time all weekend, Memorial Day festivities were taking place across Tewksbury on Monday, starting with a ceremony at the Tewksbury Cemetery.  The ceremony was presented by the Town of Tewksbury Veterans Services, and was attended by local and state officials.  After taking some time to remember those from Tewksbury who have served our country overseas, the crowds moved down the street to watch the annual Tewksbury Memorial Day parade embark from the Town Common.  Check out our photo gallery and video from the event, and if you have any photos of your own from Memorial Day upload them to our gallery here.

Memorial Day BBQ? 8 Money-Saving Tricks (Sponsored)

Who’s NOT planning a BBQ this weekend? If the weather holds and you’ve got propane or charcoal, chances are, you’re grilling something with your friends and family. Here, new ideas for keeping your costs down. Sponsored by Home Depot.

Here at Patch, we like to be thrifty, so we talked to two barbeque experts and uncovered some really good ideas to help you save money on your next outdoor party.   1. Start with a marinade. This means planning ahead -- say, Friday. But it’s worth it, says Rick Browne, host of Barbeque America on PBS, because you can pass up that well-marbled ribeye steak and buy a less tender and less expensive choice to grill like a flank steak or chuck steak. Just marinate it or brine for one or two days and then cook long and slow on the barbeque grill to break down tissues but maintain moisture. “You need to include an acid in the marinade, perhaps juice, vinegar or soy sauce, but avoid cola which is so acidic it can turn meat into a soggy mess.” …

Selectmen Create Public Events And Celebrations Committee

Interested residents are invited to apply for positions on the new committee.

Through the course of the campaign seasons, several candidates have mentioned the desire to see more community-based events and greater resident involvement. The Board of Selectmen may have killed two birds with one stone at their meeting this week, with the formation of the Town Public Events and Celebrations Committee. According to the description crafted by Town Manager Richard Montuori, the committee will be "charged with planning and carrying out the proper observation of patriotic and civic holidays and special town events as the board may designate from time to time." Among the events the group will oversee will be the Lighting of the Common in December, the Memorial Day Ceremonies and the July 4th Celebration. While the committee …

PHOTOS: Tewksbury Memorial Day Ceremony

Those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their country are remembered in a somber ceremony.

Several hundred residents gathered at the Tewksbury Cemetery on Monday, as those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their country, in a somber Memorial Day service. Many of those who spoke at the service, including several local and state political leaders, spoke of the need to do more for veterans who return home from active duty, including health and psychological care, housing and jobs. But it was the speech by State Police Trooper and Army Sfc. Kenneth Lombardi that had those in attendance locked onto every word and had some wiping away tears. Lombardi shared personal stories of men he had served with and the remarkable sacrifices they made to serve their country. Some made it home safely, some with severe injuries, some …
