Redmen Suffer First Round Knock Out

Winthrop eliminates Tewksbury High Hockey team from MIAA state tournament, 4-0.

Unfortunately for the Tewksbury High hockey team, the 2011-2012 season ended just the way it started. On a down note. The defending Division 2 State Champion Redmen got stung early and never recovered Tuesday night, suffering a 4-0 loss to Winthrop High in their opening round MIAA state tournament game at the Stoneham Arena. Winthrop forward Matt Todisco scored what proved to be the game-winning goal just 1:09 into the first period, effectively knocking the young TMHS team right off its game plan, and things never got better after that. Two second period goals put the game out of reach and a fourth goal in the third period added insult to injury as Tewksbury's dreams of making another strong post-season run were ruined before the Redmen …

Redmen Skate Past Scarborough, 2-0

Tewksbury High hockey team improves to 3-1 with opening round win at Maine Invitational Hockey Tournament.

For the past nine years, _Tewksbury High_ hockey coach Derek Doherty has taken his Redmen north to Maine over Christmas vacation in hopes that his senior leadership will teach the younger TMHS players what a winning tradition is all about. That's exactly what happened Monday night, _as seniors PJ Mugford and Dan Ladderbush _provided the offense and freshman goaltender Kyle Paquette notched his first career shutout, as Tewksbury downed Scarborough, ME., 2-0 in the opening round of the Maine Invitational Tournament. "This (trip to Maine) really brings the kids together," Doherty said. "It's a great experience for the younger guys and its good for us as a team." I believe this is correct. I also believe this is the kind of plan that we are likley to end up with, though somewhat less generous as it will be forced on us by our creditors who won't give a hair about healthcare for seniors and the needy.
