Legislators Tell Town Officials to Prepare for Level Funded State Aid

News is mixed as Legislative delegation meets with Board of Selectmen.

Local Legislators were cautiously optimistic when discussing local aid with Tewksbury officials this week. State Rep. Jim Miceli, state Sen. Barry Finegold, outgoing state Rep. Paul Adams and state Rep. Jim Lyons met Tuesday with the Board of Selectmen to discus the fiscal health of the state, the governor's proposed cuts in Local Aid for Fiscal Year 2013 and projections for FY 2014. Miceli told selectmen that given current revenue projections, he doesn't foresee any cuts to local aid in FY '14. Tewksbury was slated to receive roughly $15.5 million for the current fiscal year. "(The town) should be all set if they plan on level funded aid from the state," said Micelli. Finegold echoed Micelli's assessment. "I think we're seeing some good …

LETTER: School Committee Member Endorses Finegold

Dick says Finegold has been a good friend to the Tewksbury community.

To the Editor:  I am writing in support of Senator Barry Finegold who is currently seeking re-election for State Senator for the 2nd Essex and Middlesex District.  Senator Finegold has been a great friend to the Tewksbury community.  He is a strong proponent for our schools, education and small businesses.  Senator Finegold supported the new high school project in town, and helped to secure funding from the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), which ultimately funded 60% of the project.  He also led the mission to pass legislation to end abuses and mismanagement of the Special Education Collaborative.  This resulted in requiring the executive director of the collaborative to work more closely with the Tewksbury School Committee …

Senator Barry Finegold has been a great friend to the Tewksbury Community.    When I need answers or support on issues going on in Tewksbury, Senator Finegold is always the first call I make.   He always responds quickly and provides detailed, honest answers.   It is refreshing to work with someone like Senator Finegold as he always provides straight answers even during difficult situations.   As a Selectman in town it is nice to calling your Senator and knowing you will get great support. This direct, honest approach to his job was evident during the debate between Senator Finegold and his opponent.   Senator Finegold provided detailed answers, was up-to-…

LETTER: Finegold Deserves To Be Re-elected

Reader believes senator has done a great deal for Tewksbury.

To the Editor: State Senator Barry Finegold has delivered for Tewksbury year after year. He championed the new Tewksbury Memorial High School project and has been very pro-active in pushing the state funding for the new turf field. He's been a partner to our local officials and the business community. Barry has worked to make the economic climate viable for new small businesses to open in the area and for existing business to expand. Just the other day, Barry was at Thermo Fisher Scientific, a bio-tech company that is bringing more jobs to Tewksbury. Senator Finegold has also been a leader in moving along the I-93 interchange project. No one else has lobbied senators Kerry and Brown, Congresswoman Tsongas or the Governor to make progress …

LETTER: Paul Adams Has Earned His Vote For State Senator

Reader says he can't afford another two years of Barry Finegold.

Dear Tewksbury Neighbors:  Please join me in voting for Paul Adams for State Senator. Paul is one of six members in the Massachusetts Legislature to receive a 100% rating from the Citizens for Limited Taxation. Paul has fought, as our State Representative, and will continue to fight as our State Senator, to lower the sales tax to 5%, reduce the corporate income tax (MA is currently one of the highest in the nation),  and fight welfare and subsidy abuses. Our current Senator, Barry Finegold voted to increase sales tax 25%, and the liquor tax, which sent shoppers to NH.  Barry was on board to raise the Tewksbury property tax that you overwhelming defeated in April 2012.  As a state representative Barry supported free tuition for illegal …

LETTER: Finegold Has Her Vote

Reader says senator was responsive to the needs of a constituent.

To The Editor: When I ran into a mess of bureaucracy while trying to re- register for my nursing boards, I had no other choice and desperately needed help, so I contacted my State Senator, Barry Finegold. He and his staff were respectful, knowledgeable and responsive to all of my questions and concerns and took a common sense approach to help solve my problem. Barry himself went above and beyond to cut the red tape in which he cleared up my case with the Massachusetts Board of Registered Nurses in a few short days. As a busy mother, I don't have time to be on the phone with dozens of people to figure out a simple issue. Barry Finegold exemplified that he wants and does stand up for his constituents' needs. I've found that no person's …

Finegold and Adams Square Off in Wednesday Debate

Sen. Barry Finegold and Rep. Paul Adams, each seeking a seat as State Senator, participated in a Lowell Sun sponsored debate on Wednesday night in Tewksbury.

Current State Senator Barry Finegold and challenging State Representative Paul Adams squared off during a Wednesday debate, with budgets and jobs being a common discussion on the evening. Inside Tewksbury Memorial High School’s auditorium, Adams consistently told voters that spending on Beacon Hill is out of control, adding that he and other Republicans are needed to stop that trend. Finegold, meanwhile, defended his record throughout the event, and regularly spoke about the impact he’s had in the community as well as his availability to area voters. “The folks at Beacon Hill and the ‘go along to get along’ crowd want more of your money, and are looking for every opportunity to raise your taxes and feed their spending habits,” said Adams, …

Sadly that $207,000 about 1/2 will be used on consultants to tell us we will save .05 cents per kilowatt hour. And to make it worse, they will only hook up 1 building to the solar panels and the savings will not be seen for 10+ years, by then, they will need to be replaced for a cost, thus no savings. Second, the I-93 interchange benefits primarily Andover (shocker) and Tewksbury's South Street …   more ›

Dear Editor, I am writing in support of State Senator Barry Finegold's candidacy for State Senate. As a local official and a mother of of three school aged children, I have a vested interest in the upcoming State Senatorial election in terms of education. From my experience, I have found our State Senator Barry Finegold to be a strong advocate for education and exceptionally supportive. He has demonstrated his commitment countless times. Finegold, Adams Talk About Taxes, Healthcare at Debate

The candidates for the Second Essex and Middlesex state senate seat, incumbent Sen. Barry Finegold and State Rep. Paul Adams, sparred over a variety of issues at Memorial Hall Library Wednesday.

State Rep. Paul Adams (R-Andover) and State Sen. Barry Finegold (D-Andover) debated in front of a crowd of roughly 120 at Memorial Hall Library in Andover, Wednesday evening. Adams talked about changing a trend in state government by bringing more Republicans into the legislature and ending the "tax and spend" attitude of the Democratic majority, according to an article in the Lowell Sun. Finegold criticized Adams for not voting for a bill which lowered the cost of healthcare, a bill that Adams said would only increase taxes. While the two also disagreed over the ways to help small businesses, the two agreed on issues such as providing assistance for returning war veterans and training for the unemployed.
