Andover Man Held on $5 Million Bail After Large Cocaine Bust

Investigation fueled by $1million being seized in tractor trailers at Tewksbury Holiday Inn.

An Andover resident, who was caught with over 100 pounds of cocaine on Friday on Interstaet 495, was arraigned Monday morning in Lawrence District Court and was held on $5 million cash bail. Andover man Jose Martinez, 51, of 123 Chesnut St., was targeted in a three-month long investigation of the Essex County Drug Task Force that culminated in his arrest this past Friday, April 5, and the search of his Chestnut Street home, where they found money and firearms. Martinez is due back in court on May 6 for a probably cause hearing, at which time it will be decided whether he will go before a grand jury. The Citizen Police Academy is a series of nine classes sponsored by the Tewksbury Police Department. It is held to educate citizens about the Tewksbury Police Department, its organizational structure, operational units, and role in the Community. Participants are instructed by members of the Department as to the responsibilities of their various units. Citizens gain an understanding of the challenges facing law enforcement in today’s society. Police Department, Tewksbury Rail Trails to Host Bicycle Rodeo

Event to take place in the parking lot of the Tewksbury Walmart.

The Tewksbury Police Department and Tewksbury Rail Trails would like to help ensure the safety of local children by hosting a bike rodeo at the Tewksbury Wal-Mart on Saturday, May 4th from 10AM-1PM. On average, 250 children in the United States under the age of 14 die each year because of a bicycle crash. Another 300,000 children are treated in emergency rooms for severe head injuries. Many of these accidents could have been prevented if these children were riding safe bikes, wore bicycle helmets, and knew the basics about safe bike riding. Other local businesses will be joining in the effort by donating time and resources to help educate children …

Lawrence Man Hides Drugs But Not Well Enough To Avoid Arrest

Where did this Lawrence man allegedly hide heroin and cocaine?

A 43-year-old man is facing multiple drug charges after his arrest by Tewksbury Police on March 29. Isidro Martinez, of 87 Dorchester Ave, Apt, #1, Lawrence  has been charged with distribution of cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute heroin, and conspiracy.  According to Tewksbury Police, Martinez was arrested on James Avenue after Detectives witnessed a drug transaction while conducting surveillance.  With the assistance of the Westford Police K-9 Unit, detectives were able to locate additional narcotics hidden inside the wheel area of his vehicle.  Tewksbury Police Department urge any citizens who suspect criminal activity to call the Dispatch Center at 978-851-7373.  If you wish …

Tewksbury Man Pleads Not Guilty To Kicking, Spitting On Police

Incident began on St. Patrick's Day.

A Tewksbury man is facing multiple charges after allegedly spitting on and kicking police officers who had been called to remove him from a home on Jefferson Road. David Robson, 53, of 14 Jefferson Road, was arraigned Monday in Lowell District Court, charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest, according to an article appearing in the Lowell Sun. Robson pled not guilty to the charges and was released on $2,500 cash bail. He is due back in court April 10. According to court records, the incident began on St. Patrick's Day, when Tewksbury Police were called by a homeowner and asked to remove an unwanted, intoxicated man from a home on Jefferson Road. Tewksbury Man Sentenced To Prison For Drug Distribution

Defendant was dealing drugs out of his Tewksbury home.

A Tewksbury man will spend the next two-and-a-half years behind bars after pleading guilty to multiple drug charges this week in Woburn Superior Court. According to Tewksbury Police, Salvatore Matranga, 45, was sentenced to 30 months in jail for possession with intent to distribute a class B substance. When he is released from prison, Matranga will serve another five years of probation (including mandatory drug testing) on additional charges of possession with intent to distribute a class B substance (2 counts), possession with intent to distribute a class C substance, and possession with intent to distribute a class E substance. The charges against Matranga, stemmed from his arrest by Tewksbury Police July 12, 2010, for drug trafficking …

Third Suspect Arrested In Connection With Van Buren Road Burglary

First two suspects had been arrested over the weekend.

Call it a clean sweep. On Tuesday, March 19, Tewksbury Police tracked down and arrested a third suspect in connection with a house break on Van Buren Road last week. Michael Codner, 26, of 34 Cinnamon Circle, Tewksbury was arrested on Rt. 28 in Lawrence.  He was charged with breaking and entering, larceny over $250, and conspiracy. In addition, Codner had an outstanding warrant out of Lawrence District Court for driving with a suspended license and receiving a stolen motor vehicle.  On Saturday, March 16, police had arrested Ryan Codner, of 34 Cinnamon Circle and Kayla Freda of Stoneham in connection with the Van Buren Road burglary.
