Redmen squads destroy Lawrence to complete unbeaten league seasons.
Girls Track Tewksbury 111, Lawrence 27 The Tewksbury High girls track team won 13 of 15 events and rolled over Lawrence, 111-27. The victory clinched the MVC Division 2 championship for the Redmen and capped a perfect 4-0 league season. "We don't really place a ton of emphasis on our dual meet record, but to be able to come through this three-year period without having a track and post a 15-0 record over that time is a credit to all the kids and the parents and coaches in the program," said Head Coach John Byrnes. "We feel like we're stronger now than we were three years ago, and that's true on the boys' side as well." Half not good enough for boys lacrosse team in loss to Billerica.
Softball Haverhill 2, Tewksbury 1 Shannon McLaughlin continued her outstanding in the circle for Tewksbury, tossing a two-hitter, while striking out nine and not allowing an earned run. But defense and hitting were the downfall for the Redmen in a 2-1 loss to Haverhill. Defensive miscues led to a pair of unearned runs and the only offense came off the bat of Brooke Hardy, who cracked a solo home run. With the loss, Tewksbury drops to 4-2. Boys Lacrosse Billerica 14, Tewksbury 5 For one half, Tewksbury held the Billerica offense in check and built a 30-1 lead. Softball team improves to 3-1, baseball team drops another heartbreaker.
Boys Lacrosse Tewksbury 7, Groton-Dunstable 6 Timing is everything and James Sullivan's couldn't have been any better. Sullivan scored his only goal of the game with under a minute to play in regulation to give Tewksbury High a thrilling, 7-6 win over Groton-Dunstable. Zach Jacobs paced the Redmen offense with four goals. Tim Donovan and Johnny Aylward added the other tallies for the winners. Mike Brawley turned in another strong game in net with 13 saves. Softball Tewksbury 5, North Reading 3 The Redmen (2-1) faced another still teast in North Reading and came away with a big, non-league victory. Shannon McLaughlin turned in another strong effort in the circle. She went the distance, fanning five and giving up just one earned run against the potent Hornets. Second baseman Brooke Hardy drove in a pair of runs to pace the Redmen offense. Erin Walsh tripled and drove in another run. Softball team loses a heartbreaker to Concord-Carlisle.
Softball Concord-Carlisle 2, Tewksbury 1 In a battle between top softball teams, one swing of the bat can often make the difference. Such was the case in Concord-Carlisle's 2-1 win over Tewksbury. The Redmen held a 1-0 lead entering the fifth inning, with Shannon McLaughlin locked in a duel with CC's Galen Kerr. But the Patriots turned the tables in the fifth on a two-run triple by Angela DeBruzzi. The Redmen managed five hits against Kerr but couldn't get the tying run. Division 2 North First round Watertown 3, Tewksbury 2 Those who know hockey well will tell you that goaltending can be the great equalizer, especially in a single-elimination tournament. The Tewksbury High boys hockey team dominated play in their Division 2 North Tournament game against Watertown, Tuesday night in Stoneham. But despite a whopping 47-16 edge in shots on goal, the Redmen were eliminated, 3-2. The difference in the game was the play of Watertown goaltender Anthony Busconi, who made one spectacular stop after another and finished with 45 saves. Girls Hockey Tewksbury/Methuen 5, Concord-Carlisle 1 First time was the charm for the Tewksbury/Metheun girls hockey team. The Red Rangers are headed to the State Tournament in their very first varsity season after dominating Concord-Carlisle, 5-1 on Tuesday. They wrapped up the regular season at 8-7-3. Sophomore Amanda Conway put an exclamation point on her season with yet another hat trick, giving her 44 goals on the year. 7th Grader Kelly Golini chipped in with two more goals. Boys Hockey Tewksbury 3, Lincoln-Sudbury 2 If teams make the mistake of thinking they can shut down the Redmen by shutting down the Petti Brothers, Tyler Slavin is more than happy to set them straight. On Monday, Slavin scored a pair of goals to lead Tewksbury to a 3-2 win over Lincolcn-Sudbury. The win clinched the MVC/DCL D-2 Championship for the Redmen. Slavin's second goal game with just 16 seconds left in regulation to snap a 2-2 tie. Dario Riparo scored Tewksbury's first goal of the game. Girls Basketball whips Melrose to reach St. Mary's Tournament final.
Girls Hockey Tewksbury/Methuen 9, Waltham 4 With 34 goals through her first 16 games, Tewksbury/Methuen sophomore forward Amanda Conway was having a pretty amazing season. And then came this. Conway scored seven goals on Saturday, leading the Red Rangers to a 9-4 win over Waltham High. The victory improved the Red Rangers' record to 7-7-3 on the season and kept their hopes for a berth in the State Tournament alive. Tewksbury/Methuen closes out its regular season on Tuesday against Concord-Carlisle, needing a win or a tie to reach the post-season. Kelly Golini had two goals and an assist in the win over Waltham.
