Redmen Win Fourth Straight, 35-21 Over Dracut

Tewksbury will travel to Wilmington on Thanksgiving then to Reading for a playoff rematch.

“Respect the ‘T,’” is the slogan that was echoed at Doucette Field on Saturday after Tewksbury High beat Dracut 35-21. Tewksbury ended its MVC Small schedule with a win that set their conference record for 2012 at a healthy 5-0. “Tremendous accomplishment,” said Tewksbury head coach Brian Aylward of the undefeated conference record. “It wasn’t an accomplishment that was done easily. This group has earned every yard that they’ve gotten this year and every win that they’ve gotten.” James Sullivan had a pair of touchdown runs in the win. Eddie Matovu and Tom Casey each had a touchdown run as well, and Johnny Aylward had a 35 yard touchdown pass to Kevin Dick. The Tewksbury offense is racking up yardage, but Aylward and his team have no time …

The date and time for the game have not yet been set. the winner will advance to the Division 2 Super Bowl, which this year will be played at Bentley College in Waltham. Last year, Tewksbury used a stifling defense to pull off a 21-6 upset win over the Rockets an advance to the Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium, where the Redmen fell to Duxbury, ranked No. 2 in the state. This year, Tewksbury will be looking to use …

Congrats to the Redmen. Bill can you please tell me why you never cover the teams from Shawsheen Tech? There are many athletes from Tewksbury that make up the teams from Shawsheen. It would be nice to see you give them some coverage once and a while.   more ›

Redmen Offense Explodes in Critical Win Over North Andover, 49-42

Tewksbury can clinch the MVC Small Championship with a win in either of its next two games.

The Tewksbury High offense exploded for 49 points in the biggest win of their season, a 49-42 barnburner against North Andover on Saturday at Doucette Field. Both teams came into the game with 2-0 records in the Merrimack Valley Small Conference. The winner ended up with a clear path to the MVC Small title. “We have an opportunity to leave our mark here as a group,” said an exasperated head coach Brian Aylward after the bout. “I’m going to be the baldest guy in the league by the end of the year,” he joked, after another high scoring shootout that was memorable experience for spectators.   “Both teams had times when they really needed to make plays,” said Aylward. “Our guys ended up making more than the other guys, and that’s what it always…

Eddie Motovu (3 touchdowns) and James Sullivan (2 touchdowns) combined for 154 rushing yards.

Tewksbury High scored all of its points in the second half as the Redmen trounced Lawrence 38-20, to celebrate Homecoming at Doucette Field on Saturday afternoon. Down 6-0 at the break, Eddie Matovu returned the second-half kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown to spark a Tewksbury squad that couldn’t get anything going in the first half. After Tom Casey’s two-point conversion, Lawrence fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Redmen took over at the Lawrence 16. Matovu finished off the drive with a five yard scamper, and Johnny Aylward ran in the two point conversion making it 16-6. “We got some huge plays right out of the gate in the second half,” said Tewksbury head coach Brian Aylward. Redmen Offense Sputters in Loss to Central, 16-7

James Sullivan was the only Tewksbury player who found the end-zone.

After their best offensive effort of the season, a 41-point outburst against Andover last week, Tewksbury High found the end zone only once in a 16-7 loss to Central Catholic last night at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Lawrence. “That was a frustrating one,” said Tewksbury head coach Brian Aylward. After slicing the Andover defense for six touchdowns last week, the Redmen offense left a lot to be desired against Central Catholic, who improved their record to 5-1. Meanwhile, Tewksbury fell to 2-4. The battle in the trenches decided this one, as the Tewksbury offensive line could not contain Central's three man defensive front. “I thought they were very good up front, and that posed some problems for us,” said Aylward. “We knew that those …

Instant Classic: Redmen Fall Short Against Andover, 51-42

Johnny Aylward had four touchdowns, Kevin Dick caught three, and Eddie Matovu ran for two.

Tewksbury High had a chance to knock off an unbeaten team for the second week in a row, but fell short in a slugfest at Doucette Field, 51-42 to Andover. “I think that this is one that will go down as one of the all-time games,” said Redmen head coach Brian Aylward. From the opening kickoff to the final gun, both teams “spilled their guts,” as Aylward said. They combined for 93 points and enough highlight reel plays to keep the healthy crowd in suspense until the finish. After beating a 3-0 Lowell squad last week, 21-0, Aylward had his squad ready to go against another powerhouse offense. “Last week was a tremendous win, one for the ages,” Aylward said. “It doesn’t matter what happens today, or 20 years from now, that’s something that no …

Redmen Roundup: Girls Soccer Whips Lowell, Volleyball Reaches .500

Golf team maintains momentum, swamps Lawrence for eighth win of the season.

Girls Soccer Tewksbury 2, Lowell 1 The Tewksbury High girls soccer team needed a lift and got it from their top players. The Redmen have been scuffling along in the early part of the season, unable to gather any real momentum. They may have turned the corner Tuesday with a gutsy 2-1 win over Lowell High at the Livingston Street fields. Nicole Chaet scored twice in the first six minutes of the game for Tewksbury, assisted both times by Kelly Quigley. But Lowell battled back, cutting the lead to 2-1 with a goal two minutes into the second half. The Raiders pressed the advantage and kept the Redmen back on their heels much of the last 10 minutes of the game. But Tewksbury keeper Rebecca Davies, backed by a solid defensive corps, held Lowell …
