Tewksbury Service Station Owner Charged in Extortion Plot
Registry of Motor Vehicles manager also charged as the result of FBI investigation.
A Tewksbury service station owner is facing federal charges after being arrested earlier this month in connection with an extortion plot. Simon Abou Raad, 50, owns Simons Service Center, 1 Main St., as well as another servicd station in his hometown of Tyngsboro. He and Mark LaFrance of Braintree, a project manager with Vehicle Safety and Compliance Services at the Registry of Motor Vehicles, are accused of conspiring to extort other service station owners wanting to obtain a license to conduct motor vehicle safety inspections.
