You Ask ... Patch Answers

You Asked About Jon Ryan's Pubs and The Solar Farm

We've got answers to two questions asked by readers this week.

We received a couple of questions this week that called for immediate answers, so we decided to tackle both of them. Question: What's going on with that solar farm that was supposed to be built in Andover just over the Tewksbury line at the end of South Street? Answer: Great question. To be honest, we'd forgotten about that project, though I'm sure the residents of that neighborhood have not. To find an answer we went to a couple of sources including Community Development Director Steve Sadwick and Brendan Lewis, the editor of Andover Patch. My wife is gluten free too, tough allergy...thankfully Market Basket has green labels on the shelves of products that are gluten free. Makes cooking for everyone challenging and a lot more costly but you can't put a price on health I guess.   more ›

Tewksbury Resident Voices Concerns About Andover Solar Farm

Talmage Solar Engineering is planning to build 4 megawatt solar farms on parcel at the end of South Street.

A private developer is going through the process of getting permits from the town of Andover in hopes of building a solar farm in the near future. Talmage Solar Engineering is hoping to build a 4 megawatt solar farm at 1350 South St., which is adjacent to Interstate 93 and the Tewksbury border. However, some Tewksbury neighbors are starting to have concerns about the project. The plot of land that Talmage will be developing, now frequented by all terrain vehicles, is a little over 40 acres, but only 14 acres will be used to build the solar panels.  Half of the land will be preserved due to restrictions which were laid down by the Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program.  Talmage is also working on a deal to donate some of the land …

There are no known health risks associated with living in a town that is adjacent to another town with solar panels. Ms. Castigli lives over 1300 feet from the proposed site in Tewksbury, not Andover. There is a paintball range and I-89 that are both closer to her house than the solar panels. While both of these sites could be dangerous to kids, to my knowledge, there is not a significant problem…   more ›
