Today's Photo of the Day was sent in by Ken Miano, president of the Tewksbury Youth Basketball League. The Tewksbury Boys Basketball League honored one of their past players, home for a 10-day Christmas leave before being deployed to Afghanistan in January. Derek Temmallo, a member of the US Army, home for a brief visit with his family over Christmas, was awarded a plaque and game ball in appreciation for his service and dedication to his country and to take in a Senior Division Bucks game. Derek’s dad, Chris is the head coach of the team and his brother Robert is a player. Pistons and T-Wolves score Cadet Division wins.

Tewksbury Travel Recaps Tewksbury 5th Grade Red Over Chelmsford Tewksbury Red had a home game at Lowell Catholic vs. Chelmsford White. Tewksbury played solid defense holding Chelmsford to 14 points, coming away with a 58-14 win. Hounding the Chelmsford ball carriers were guards Adam Pacheco, Riley Frost, Zach Tyler and Vinny Hulme. Playing aggressive defense were Lucas Frost, Kyle Rossetti, CJ Zemetres, Jared Rizzo, Chad Boschetti, Connor Nugent and Bryan Ndungn. (Editor's note: The following information was submitted by the coaches and administrators of the TBBL.) TBBL Intermediates Eagles 25-Hornets 17 You could tell it was our first 8:00 game. The Eagles came out flat and slow, scoring only 6 points in the first half, but keeping things close with good defense. The energy level picked up a bit in the third quarter, after Evan McCarthy got his first basket of the year off one of his many rebounds. The Eagles then put it away in the fourth quarter, with Aaron Whitehouse scoring 5 of his team-high 9 points, including a nice 3-pointer. Jeff D'Entremont played his best game of the year, knocking down three short jumpers for 6 points and playing nice defense. Nick Catizone also scored 6 points, …

TBBL Travel Summaries Tewksbury 6th Grade Red 50, Timberlane 26 Tewksbury 6Th Grade Red continued its winning streak by beating Timberlane 50-26. Leading the scoring was John Ciampa with 14 points and Gavin Macdonald and Jared Mason with 8 points. Also scoring were Troy Acconia, Jess Lamarck, Mason Lorick, Cam Kelly, David Giuggio and Chris Monteneri with 4 points. Great defense by Alex Papageorgiou and Makin Macdonald. The team finished 2011 with an overall record of 13 wins and 3 losses in a tough Merrimack Valley Basketball League. And there’s plenty of optimism that 2012 brings the same results. …

Cadet Division Sixers 20 Hawks 16 The Sixers had a great contribution from half of the team on scoring. Mikie Kelly led the scoring with 6 baskets, most from the outside. Also sinking shots were Adam Favreau, Dan Fleming, Corey Butler and Drew Timmons. Michael Duggan and Cole Kimtis both played strong center defense. Dhruv Kaushal and Kyle Adams feverishly went after the ball playing low by the net on offense and defense. The Hawks had plenty of scoring opportunities, but were unable to get the ball in the basket. Sreetej Digumarthi, Captain Rory Power and Mike Cronin scored baskets. Tewksbury 7th Grade Blue Georgetown 43 -Tewksbury 7th Grade Blue 32 Tewksbury got off to a rough start in their game at Georgetown High School, as the quick Georgetown team converted loose balls into 4 layups to pull out to quick 9-1 lead. Tewksbury stepped up their defense, and the score closed to 11-8 half way thru the first half as big men David Stein (4 points) and Ameen Kalkhoran shut down the lane while Ryan Indigaro, Cory Indelicato and Josh Coward (6 points) were everywhere, causing Georgetown turn overs and converting them into points. Junior Division Mavericks over the Clippers Despite a strong effort, the Clippers fell to the Mavericks. Andrew Ferreira led the scoring for the Clippers, sinking two baskets for 4 points. Patrick Dunn and Joshua Seghrue each contributed by sinking two baskets. Strong efforts were turned in by the entire team, including Matthew Pelletier and Richard Kramer who were busy hustling at both ends of the floor. Alex Karnell took some good shots at the hoop while Sean Mackenzie continued to look good handling the ball on offense. Tewksbury 7th Grade Red wins 2011 Officer James Hood Basketball Tournament over the Thanksgiving weekend. Tewksbury went 3-0 with wins over Billerica, Wilmington, and Burlington to reach the Championship Game. Tewksbury faced a tough Dracut team and played an outstanding game with all eleven players contributing in the game to come away with the victory.

RAPTORS 26 - JAZZ 22 In their second game of the season, the Raptors came from a 10-point deficit to overcome the Jazz in overtime. The game was tied 22-22 at the end of the 4th quarter and the Raptors came out on top to win their second game of the season. The offense and defense played well with scoring from Hayden Brown (2), Chris Chiccarelli (6), Kyle Crowley (14), and Mason Brown (4). Superior defense was played by all including Jason Molea, Bradley Richardson & Cole Westcott.
