JUNIOR LEAGUE MONARCHS 12 LYNX 5 The Lynx fell to a resurgent Monarchs squad on Saturday. The 1st quarter was a back and forth effort with the Lynx getting many scoring chances in the quarter. Jessica Caredeo looked great coming off an injury to sink one and Sarah Milne got clear on a shot in the paint to sink her 1st basket of the season resulting in the 4-4 tie after one. In the 2nd quarter, Kendall Donahoe playing defense in a box-and-one set held the Monarchs tenacious guard at bay for most of the quarter but in the final minute she was able to get free for a couple of baskets. JUNIOR LEAGUE SPARKS 12 COMETS 8 The Sparks played an incredible game, showcasing their solid passing, good shooting, and strong defense as they won their 3rd game of the year. The Sparks jumped out to an early 8-0 lead but watched as the Comets slowly caught up. By the 4th quarter, the Comets inched back to within 2 points before a final Sparks basket was made with two minutes remaining.The scoring was led by Brianna Walker and Kerry Shea as they both scored 4 points each. Tewksbury Girls 5th grade Travel team ended the 2011 calendar year with their second tournament championship in as many tries. This time they won the “Pelham Basketball Winter Slam 2011 Basketball Championship”. They remained undefeated on the season, while surviving their first test with a 28-27 heart-stopper in the tournament finale. Down 27-26 with under a minute, Center Isabella DeRoche stepped to the foul line and calmly knocked down two clutch free throws. In a frenetic final 30 seconds Tewksbury’s season long tight defense was on full display as they stopped Pelham to win the tournament championship. Lizzy Gallella …

COUGARS 34 JAYHAWKS 12 The Cougars played their best game of the season against the Jayhawks and were able to get the victory. Emily Zuraski once again showed great leadership distributing the ball to the open players in the 1st qtr. In the 2 qtr Felicia Ragucci played incredible as well and was able to continue spreading the ball around and carry the momentum we had going. By the end of the 4th qtr the Cougars were able to pull out the victory. We do realize we still have to improve every part of our game and we have a long way to go to get to our goal this year. Tewksbury 32 – Amesbury 4 The Tewksbury girls started the tournament off by overpowering Amesbury. Scoring for Tewksbury was Francesca Cocca, Adrianna Favreau, Samantha Mercurio, Sara Catanzano, Katie Garcia, and Emily Sessa with 4 points each. Scoring 2 points each was Alexis Brincklow, Victoria Mirabito, Marissa Doherty, and Kayla Von Kahle. Julia Kelly played great perimeter defense and Colleen MacNeil had multiple blocked shots in the paint. JUNIOR LEAGUE LYNX 8 MERCURY 2 While there was some evident rust on the Lynx players from the off-season they were still able to come away with a win against a tough Mercury team. Defense was the key to the win with Grace Morris (5 steals, 1 block), Marissa Brangiforte (7 steals, 4 rebounds), and Kendall Donahoe (4 steals, 4 blocks) all leading the effort. The Lynx got solid looks at the basket all day but many of the shots (64 of them) just were not falling. Grace opened up the scoring in the 1st quarter with 2 buckets and the Lynx took a slim 4-2 lead into the half. In the 2nd half Grace added another bucket…

Tewksbury Girls Basketball League will be holding it's final registration day for the 2011/2012 season on Saturday, September 10 from 10 am to 12:00 pm at the Tewksbury Public Library. The league is open to Tewksbury girls in grades 2 and up. Fees are $60 for clinic (grades 2 and 3) and senior league (grades 8 and 9) and $75 for junior (grades 4 and 5) and intermediate (grades 6 and 7). Registration can also be done by mail by downloading a form from our website and mailing it with the appropriate fee to TGBL, PO Box 232, Tewksbury MA. Registrations must be postmarked by September 10. Late registrations will be accepted as space allows and …
