Rosella Mary Dean, 90

St. Dorothy’s Parish.

Rosella Mary (Keough) Dean,  age 90, died peacefully Saturday, February 23, with her daughters at her bedside at Lowell General’s Saints Campus.  She was the devoted wife of the late Edward Norman Dean for 43 years, before his death in 1988. She was one of four children of the late John and Ella (McHatton) Keough, born in Chelsea on June 6, 1922.  She was raised in Chelsea, and was a proud graduate of Chelsea High School.  In her youth, she had summered with her family in Tewksbury, and moved permanently to town in 1938. Mrs. Dean was a devout Catholic who became a sister of the Third Order of St. Francis Assisi in 1958.   She was an active fundraiser and among the founders of St. Dorothy’s Parish in Wilmington, where she continued her …

Irene Gkolias, 86

Loving wife, mother, and aunt.

Irene (Vonofortis) Gkolias, age 86, died Tuesday, February 19, at the Lowell General Hospital, Main Campus, following a brief illness.  She was the beloved wife for 59 years of John M. Gkolias, who died last April 25. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 28, 1926, a daughter of the late Triffon and Clara (Klidas) Vonofortis, and was raised in Detroit and later Dearborn, Michigan.   Upon her marriage, she and her late husband operated the Vonofortis family restaurant in Dearborn for eight years.  They moved east to Tewksbury in 1962, where they had remained. Devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Marguerite T. (Kelleher) Morgan, age 82, a Tewksbury resident for more than six decades, died unexpectedly surrounded by all her children, Tuesday morning, February 19, at the Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston.  She was the beloved wife of the late William F. Morgan, who died in 1972. She was born in East Boston, October 25, 1930, one of nine children of the late Edmund and Marguerita “Rita” (Wilcox) Kelleher, and was raised in Somerville.  Upon her marriage to Bill, they moved to Tewksbury in 1950 to raise their family. Mrs. Morgan was a communicant of St. William’s Church.  She worked as a waitress at the former Greenridge Turkey Farm for more than 30 years, leaving only when the landmark restaurant closed. Terence Morrissey, 61

U.S. Navy Veteran.

 Terence Morrissey, age 61, passed away on February 8, at the Boston Medical Center from traumatic injuries sustained two days earlier, when he was struck by an automobile while crossing Salem Street near his home. He was born in Boston, on May 9, 1951 to the late Mollie (Jasilewicz) (Morrissey) DiGiovanni and Thomas Joseph Morrissey.  Terry was the center of their love and the love of his older brother Thomas and sister Linda.  Upon the death of his father and remarriage of his mother, he became a beloved step-son to the late Freddie DiGiovanni. Retired from G.T.E. Gov’t Systems.

Mr. Albert C. Sutherby, age 79, a G.T.E. retiree,  died Monday, February 4, at the Radius Health Care Center in Roxbury, following a long illness.  He was the beloved husband for 55 years of Kathleen A. (Garvin) Sutherby, who preceded him in death one week ago, on January 27. Albert was born in Boston, October 12, 1933, one of six children of the late Cuthbert and Elizabeth (Sheehan) Sutherby, and was raised in Somerville.  After graduating high school, he went on to earn a BSBA from Boston College.  He retired from G.T.E.’s Government Services division in 1993, after 22 years of service.  Upon his marriage to Kathleen, they moved to Reading, and eventually to Tewksbury 18 years ago.  Albert will be remembered for his all consuming …

Mrs. Josephine M. (Kozubal) Jop, age 93, a resident of Tewksbury most of her life, died Saturday evening, February 2, at D’Youville Nursing Care Center in Lowell.  She was the beloved wife of the late Stanley J. Jop, who died in 1989. She was born in Lowell, October 5, 1919, one of two children of the late Stanislaw “Stanley” and Elizabeth (Tenzka) Kozubal,  was raised in Lowell and educated in the Holy Trinity Polish School system.  After her marriage to Stanley, they moved to North Tewksbury.  She was a former communicant of the Holy Trinity Polish Church in Lowell. Mrs. Jeanne M. (Foley) Blades, age 81, died Monday morning, February 4, at her Tewksbury home, surrounded by her beloved family, following a lengthy illness.  She was the wife for 35 years of Edward A. Blades Sr., who died in 1996. She was born in Medford, September 30, 1931, one of six children of the late John and Ellen (Lucia) Foley, was raised in Medford, and graduated from Medford High School.   She worked at Fireman’s Insurance Company in Boston during her early years.  After her marriage, Jeanne and Ed moved to Tewksbury in 1961 to raise their young and growing family.  She was a devout Catholic, and a communicant of St. William’s Parish.  She opened her home to teach CCD to her children and neighbors.  For recreation, she enjoyed …

Leo Thornton, age 74, a well known resident of Tewksbury, died peacefully in his sleep at his home, Friday morning, January 25th. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor A. (Breagy) Thornton, who died in September 2001. Leo was born in Wilmington, July 10, 1938, one of eight children of the late Joseph J. and Mary Ellen (Lacey) Thornton. He was raised in Wilmington and Somerville, and had resided in Tewksbury since the 40’s. He enlisted into the U.S. Army and served stateside during the Korean War. He began his working career at Wang, and moved to Tewksbury public school system, where he was a maintenance supervisor. He retired from the Tewksbury Hospital’s Maintenance Department. Elizabeth L. “Betty Lou” (O’Neill) Johnson, 70

Elizabeth L. “Betty Lou” (O’Neill) Johnson, age 70, a member of a well known Tewksbury family, died Monday, January 14, at The Lowell General Hospital, after a courageous three year battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of William E. “Bill” Johnson, with whom she had celebrated a 46th wedding anniversary this past May 29th. Betty Lou was born in Lowell, April 8, 1942, one of six children of the late Richard F. O’Neill Sr. and Loretta (Manley) O’Neill. Janice A. (Parziale) Mazzoni, a resident of Tewksbury for the past 47 years, died Tuesday evening, January 15, at the Wingate at Belvidere in Lowell, after a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of Richard W. “Dick” Mazzoni, with whom she had celebrated a 47th wedding anniversary this past March 22nd. Janice was born in Boston, June 29, 1940, one of four children of the late Adolph and Anna (DeVeau) Parziale, and was raised in East Boston.  In her youth, she was an award winning dancer, and continued to enjoy dancing throughout her life.
