Tewksbury High cross country team recognized at School Committee meeting.
Last month, the Tewksbury High Boys Cross County team captured its first-ever Division 3 State Championship. On Dec. 12, the School Committee paid tribute to the team with a special recognition and proclamation. Members of the team are: Corey Thomas, Brian Amaral, Joseph Darrigo, Anthony Darrigo, Mike Famiglietti, Anthony Barinelli and Nick Souza. Coaches are Peter Fortunato and Peter Molloy.

Thrilling Division 3 meet came down to a tiebreaker and proved that winning a cross country championship takes contributions from everyone on your roster.
It's easy to see cross country as an individual sport. Athletes run at their own pace, trying for personal best times. And the vast majority of runners spend their race staring at the back of another runner's jersey. But when it comes to winning championships, cross country is every bit as much a team sport as baseball, soccer or field hockey. Tewksbury High proved that earlier this month when they hoisted the Division 3 State Championship trophy following a thrilling meet in Wrentham. It was the Redmen's first-ever cross country state title. Corey Thomas led the way for Tewksbury, placing 6th overall in the 162-runner field in 16:20 over the 5K course. A look at the recent results for the Tewksbury High athletic teams.
Golf North Reading 124, Tewksbury 112 (Editor's note: Information below on the golf match was submitted by Coach Jim Sullivan.) In a match that was played in an adjusted Stableford Scoring system, North Reading High School defeated Tewksbury Memorial High School by a score of 124 to 112. In this format players are awarded points for the following scores; 8 points for an Eagle, 6 points for a Birdie, 4 points for a Par, 2 points for a Bogey, and 1 point for a Double Bogey. With this format, each player goes out with a partner for their own school and plays alongside two players from the other team as well. Upon completion of the match, the best six scores from each team are used and added together to determine the team total with the team …
