The Tewksbury High boys hockey team dominated play in their Division 2 North Tournament game against Watertown, Tuesday night in Stoneham. But despite a whopping 47-16 edge in shots on goal, the Redmen were eliminated, 3-2. The difference in the game was the play of Watertown goaltender Anthony Busconi, who made one spectacular stop after another and finished with 45 saves. If the Tewksbury/Methuen girls hockey team was feeling any jitters heading into their first-ever playoff game, they did an awfully good job of hiding it. The Red Rangers, laid waste to Norwell High, 10-3, in the preliminary round of the Division 2 North Tournament. Sophomore Amanda Conway and 7th Grader Kelly Golini led the Red Rangers offense, as they have throughout the year. Conway scored four more goals, giving her 48 on the season. Golini notched a hat trick and added a pair of assists. Tewksbury/Methuen came into the game as the No. 20 seed in the 22-team tournament. As the new Tewksbury High School was being planned and constructed, one of the things school department officials were looking forward to was having a gymnasium large enough to host a graduation ceremony. However, some members of the TMHS Class of 2013 say the new gym isn't big enough and they would like to see the June 7 ceremony moved outdoors, to Doucette Field. Earlier this month, seniors John Froio, Christian Taylor and a handful of other students attended a Tewksbury School Committee meeting to share their concerns and a petition signed by around 200 students. Boys Hockey Tewksbury 3, Lincoln-Sudbury 2 If teams make the mistake of thinking they can shut down the Redmen by shutting down the Petti Brothers, Tyler Slavin is more than happy to set them straight. On Monday, Slavin scored a pair of goals to lead Tewksbury to a 3-2 win over Lincolcn-Sudbury. The win clinched the MVC/DCL D-2 Championship for the Redmen. Slavin's second goal game with just 16 seconds left in regulation to snap a 2-2 tie. Dario Riparo scored Tewksbury's first goal of the game. Pat Doherty, Derek Petti, Matt Donovan, Ryan Petti and Michael Casey had assists the Redmen. Kyle Paquette earned the win in net with 15 saves. Girls Basketball whips Melrose to reach St. Mary's Tournament final.
Girls Hockey Tewksbury/Methuen 9, Waltham 4 With 34 goals through her first 16 games, Tewksbury/Methuen sophomore forward Amanda Conway was having a pretty amazing season. And then came this. Conway scored seven goals on Saturday, leading the Red Rangers to a 9-4 win over Waltham High. The victory improved the Red Rangers' record to 7-7-3 on the season and kept their hopes for a berth in the State Tournament alive. Tewksbury/Methuen closes out its regular season on Tuesday against Concord-Carlisle, needing a win or a tie to reach the post-season. Kelly Golini had two goals and an assist in the win over Waltham. Boys Basketball Tewksbury 72, Dracut 51 After a mid-year swoon, the Tewksbury High boys basketball team has gathered momentum over the last few weeks and qualified for the Division 2 North Sectional Tournament with a 72-51 win over Dracut. Junior Kevin Dick and sophomore Alex DiRocco dropped in 19 points each to lead a balanced attack for the Redmen. Joe Csokmay chipped in with 10 points, six assists and five rebounds. Justin Derrah added 10 points. With the win, Tewksbury improved to 8-11 overall. Howver, the Redmen's 5-3 record against Division 2 opponents is enough to qualify for the tournament.

Boys Hockey Tewksbury 6, Concord-Carlisle 2 Tewksbury 5, Boston Latin 2 With every game, the Redmen look stronger and stronger. Led by the first line of Tyler Salvin and the Petti brothers, Tewksbury rolled over Concord-Carlisle, 6-2. Slavin led the way with two goals and three assists. Derek Petti and Ryan Petti added two goals and two assists each. Sophomore goalie Kyle Paquette earned the win in net with 18 saves. Wrestling Dracut 48, Tewksbury 21 The Redmen put up the best fight they could but they were unable to stop the Midshipmen from clinching the MVC D2 championship with a 48-21 win. There were some highlights for Tewksbury. Tim Martel earned a hard-fought 5-3 overtime win over Dracut's outstanding 182-pounder, Stig McElhinney. Joe Martell earned a pin at 120 in just 1:00. Nick Falcone scored a pinfall win at 138 in 5:05. At 195, Dan Donovan notched a pinfall win in 1:25. Girls Basketball Tewksbury 43, Chelmsford 38 The Tewksbury High girls basketball team continued its patented late-season surge, with a thrilling come-from-behind win over Chelmsford High, Tuesday night at the TMHS Gym. Senior Captain Nicole Chaet led the way for the Redmen with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Tewksbury outscored Chelmsford, 19-6 in the fourth quarter, after trailing for much of the game. Chaet scored midway through the fourth quarter to give the Redmen the lead for good. Junior Sara Semenza dropped in a game-high 13 points for Tewksbury. Junior Shannon Semenza aded seven. My child graduated at Doucette, while it was great to be able to have everyone who wanted to attend there, there is no lighting and those at the end of the alphabet were graduating when it was pretty dark out. I'm sure pictures from the stands didn't come out due to lack of outdoor lighting. I say plan to have it outside and use the gym in the event of inclement weather. Not every child will have…   more ›
