LETTER: Junior Girl Scouts Collecting Items For Tewksbury Hospital Patients

Junior Girl Scout Troop #60803 is collecting all kinds of useful items to donate to patiets at Tewksbury Hospital. They need your help.

To The Editor: We are working on a service project where we are collecting items for the Tewksbury State Hospital. Some of the patients don't receive anything for Christmas as they have no family or friends. We wanted to collect some every day items for them.  We are looking for items such as toothbrushes,  toothpaste, deodorant,  shampoo, bobby pins,  ponytail holders,  combs,  socks, calendars,  puzzle books, pencils and pens. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We have placed a box at the Tewksbury Town Hall for our collection. Tewksbury State Hospital Building Damaged By Fire

Chief says fire may have been smoldering for days.

An historic building on the grounds of Tewksbury State Hospital was was damaged Tuesday by a two-alarm fire that officials believe might be the result of a lightning strike. Firefighters responded to reports of heavy smoke at the Anne G. McDonald Building at 365 East St. the 19th century brick structure is part of the original Tewksbury Hospital complex but has been completely vacant for more than 20 years. Arriving on scene, firefighters were able to see flames on the second floor of the building. According to Fire Chief Mike Hazel, the fire was contained to one room on the first floor and one on the second, although thick smoke filled the entire structure. Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Road Rage Incident

Suspect Alleged hit man twice with his car and drove with him on the hood.

A Lawrence man is facing attempted murder charges after a bizarre road rage incident that began near the Andover town line and ended on the grounds of Tewksbury State Hospital. Hermenes Rosa, 23, of 149 Myrtle St, Lawrence, was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly striking a man with his vehicle twice in the parking lot of the hospital, driving a distance with the victim on the hood each time. According to information provided by Police Chief Timothy Sheehan, the confrontation began 1:47 p.m. when the alleged victim was pulling out of the Dunkin' Donuts/Fresh Express parking lot onto East Street. He told police that a driver on East had stopped to let him out of the lot but that a driver, later identified as Rosa, had passed the first…

Doesn't matter the color of their skin as I never mentioned that in my response. Why bother guarding the borders this means more voters and many more free programs. I am 3rd generation and our family came here in the 1900's and had to register with customs and never ever was on any democratic welfare; you want to come to america do it the legal way...see what FDR started and why were in this mess!   more ›

Travel Back in Time: Tewksbury Hospital

Travel Back in Time with the Wednesday Patch Passport, to discover the history and roots of Tewksbury.

Tewksbury Hospital was established in 1852 as one of three state almhouses needed to help care for the influx of immigrants into Massachusetts. These houses were the first venture into caring for the poor by the state of Massachusetts, previously, this duty had been carried out by the cities and towns in the commonwealth. According to Tewksbury Historical Society records, on May 1, 1854, the Tewksbury Almhouse opened with a capacity for 500 people and the population grew to 668 patients by the end of the first week, and more than 800 by May 20. The population continued to grow and by Dec. 2, 1854, 2,193 paupers had been admitted to Tewksbury Hospital. In 1866, the almshouse began accepting the pauper insane, becoming  the state's first …
