A system likely to become Tropical Storm Sandy is on a track toward the East Coast.
Do you remember that snowstorm that dumped snow and left large areas of Tewksbury without power for days last October? Well, get ready for another potential Halloween storm. This time it likely won't bring snow to New England, but it could bring heavy rain and damaging wind early next week. A tropical depression in the central Caribbean may strengthen to become a tropical storm by Tuesday (Oct. 23). Tropical Depression 18 has maximum sustained winds of only 30 mph on Monday afternoon, but the system is expected to intensify quickly and could be near hurricane strength (winds of at least 74 mph) as it approaches Jamaica on Wednesday. Bring in your plants as the cold temperatures could kill sensitive vegetation.
Time to bring in the plants to protect them from the cooler temperatures. The National Weather Service is expecting some frosty weather tonight and into Saturday morning for the Tewksbury area. According to a statement from the NWS on Thursday, "below freezing temperatures could kill sensitive vegetation." This freeze could be the end of the growing season, the statement added. The frost advisory is set late Friday night into Saturday morning. Temperatures are expected to be around 30 degrees. Frost advisories are set during the "growing season," said the NWS in a statement. "Those with agricultural interests are advised to harvest or protect tender vegetation."

The National Weather Service on Monday issued a flood watch because of the possibility of several inches of rain.
A flood watch has been issued for Tewksbury and much of the region this afternoon and evening. The flood watch means that there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts, according to the National Weather Service, which issued the watch at 10:36 a.m. on Monday. The weather service is predicting rainfall amounts of one to three inches today. There is a possibility of up to three to five inches of rain exists. Heavy rainfall amounts will result in sharp rises on rivers and streams today, the weather service said. “A few rivers may approach or even exceed bankfull where locally heavier rainfall occurs,” the weather service said in issuing the flood watch.
