TMHS Girls Hockey Stomps Nowell, 10-3, In Playoff Debut

Conway, Golini lead Red Rangers into second round.

If the Tewksbury/Methuen girls hockey team was feeling any jitters heading into their first-ever playoff game, they did an awfully good job of hiding it. The Red Rangers, laid waste to Norwell High, 10-3, in the preliminary round of the Division 2 North Tournament. Sophomore Amanda Conway and 7th Grader Kelly Golini led the Red Rangers offense, as they have throughout the year. Conway scored four more goals, giving her 48 on the season. Golini notched a hat trick and added a pair of assists. Tewksbury/Methuen came into the game as the No. 20 seed in the 22-team tournament. But they played like anything but a lower seed, as they skated circles around No. 13 Norwell from the opening puck-drop. With the win, Tewksbury/Methuen (9-7-3) moves on…

North Andover Ousts TMHS Volleyballers, 3-1 [video]

Redmen are eliminated in the first round of the MIAA Division 1 North Sectional tournament.

The problem with qualifying for MIAA post season play is that if you run into a team with a hot hand and lose a match, it's one-and-done and your season is over. Such was the case for the Tewksbury High girls volleyball team Tuesday night as the Redmen bumped up against a rock solid North Andover team in the first round of the state tournament, and saw the most successful season in the history of Tewksbury High volleyball come to an abrupt end. "I think we played as well as we could have," said TMHS coach Jim Ray after his team was eliminated, 3-1, by the Scarlet Knights. "North Andover came in here (seeded) No. 5 and we were No. 4, and you couldn't have asked for a better pairing for a game like this." It was certainly a match worth the …

Redmen Round-up: It's Tourney Time

Field hockey hosts Wayland Thursday at 2:30; volleyballers get first round bye.

Tourney time is officially upon us as the Tewksbury High field hockey team will kick off local MIAA state tournament action Thursday afternoon at Strong Field against Wayland. The field hockey game was originally supposed to be played Wednesday, but poor field conditions due to the recent snow storm left the field in unplayable condition. After a day of drying out, the teams will try again Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Wayland finished second in the Dual County League's Division 2 standings with a 10-4-2 overall record this fall. The Warriors are seeded 10th in the MIAA Division 2 North Sectional bracket. Tewksbury finished 12-4-2 overall, good for third place in the Merrimack Valley Conference Division standings. The Redmen are playing …

Volleyballers Win First Ever MVC Div. 2 Title

Tewksbury blanks Dracut, 3-0, to capture first Merrimack Valley Conference Division 2 volleyball championship in school history.

Make some room on the gymnasium wall. There's a new banner going up where none has gone before. The Tewksbury High girls volleyball team made school history Tuesday night, beating Dracut, 3-0 at the Merrimack Valley Conference jamboree night in Lawrence, capturing their first-ever MVC Division 2 championship in the process. "I'm ecstatic for these girls," said TMHS coach Jim Ray. "After the (early season upset) loss to Notre Dame, they were determined to make something of this season, and they did it. We set the bar at a certain height but these girls challenged themselves to go beyond that, and they did it" Tuesday night's win over Dracut was the team's 14th victory of the season (versus four losses) and that was also a milestone, setting…

Redmen Run Winning Streak to Five Games

Tewksbury completes sweep of Maine, returns home to blast Latin.

Nothing like a holiday trip to Maine to gather some momentum. After dropping its opening game of the season to Chelmsford, Tewksbury High has ripped off five straight wins, including three in a row at the Maine High School Invitational festival. The Redmen completed their Maine massacre with a 6-0 thrashing of Chevrus. For the third straight game, Tewksbury blew the game open with a four-goal second period. Chevrus managed to keep white-hot Ryan Doherty from finding the back of the net but Doherty did his damage by dishing out three assists. The Redmen used a balanced offensive attack, with six different players scoring, including Christopher Connors, Patrick Doherty, Sean MacLeod, Rob Pruyne, Mark Petti and Derek Petti. Michael Golini had…

One Good Half Not Enough For Tewksbury Girls

Billerica tops TMHS, 60-34, In Holiday Tournament Finals.

For the first two quarters of Thursday night's championship game at the Billerica Holiday Tournament, it was difficult to tell which team was the experienced, high-scoring favorite and which team was the inexperienced underdog. Unfortunately for the Tewksbury High girls basketball team, the final two quarters made things perfectly clear. Leading by only eight at halftime, Billerica's senior -laden line-up outscored the youthful Redmen girls by a two-to-one margin in the second half and pulled away to a 60-34 victory that earned the host team the tournament's top trophy. "We played a real good first half, but Billerica showed up in the second half and Tewksbury didn't," said TMHS coach Mark Bradley. "We're a young team and they've got a lot…

Davidian Leads Strong Tewksbury Showing at Lowell Holiday Wrestling Tournament

Junior 152-pounder wins three matches to advance to the quarterfinals

Tewksbury High junior 152-pound wrestler Mike Davidian continued his early-season hot streak, winning all three of his matches by falls to advance to the quarterfinals of the George Bossi Lowell Holiday Wrestling Tournament at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell Wednesday. Davidian ran his overall record to 12-1 so far this year, and will face Alejandro Gupta of Wayland in Thursday morning's quarter-finals. With 55 teams competing in what amounts to the most prestigious annual wrestling tournament in the area, Davidian's run of three straight pins is no small feat. If Davidian can win three more matches on Thursday, he would become Tewksbury's first Lowell Holiday Tournament champion since David Shunamon won the 189-pound title in 1998. Davidian …
