Redmen squads destroy Lawrence to complete unbeaten league seasons.
Girls Track Tewksbury 111, Lawrence 27 The Tewksbury High girls track team won 13 of 15 events and rolled over Lawrence, 111-27. The victory clinched the MVC Division 2 championship for the Redmen and capped a perfect 4-0 league season. "We don't really place a ton of emphasis on our dual meet record, but to be able to come through this three-year period without having a track and post a 15-0 record over that time is a credit to all the kids and the parents and coaches in the program," said Head Coach John Byrnes. "We feel like we're stronger now than we were three years ago, and that's true on the boys' side as well." Chelsee Porcaro, Jess Amadee and Kelly Quigley led the way for the Redmen with two victories each. Porcaro had wins in the…

Senior Jess Bridle wins Division 2 state 400 meter dash championship, sophomore Sara Semenza finishes second
Just when it seemed as though Jess Bridle had done all there was to do in a Tewksbury High track uniform, the TMHS senior speedster added yet another accomplishment to her long list of achievements by taking first place in the 400 meter dash at the MIAA Division 2 State Championship meet Sunday afternoon at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School. Bridle had already done more in her four-year career at TMHS than any other female track athlete, winning 10 different Merrimack Valley Conference championships, six individually and four on relay teams. "You could try to squeeze Jessie's (track) resume onto one page, but even if you typed it single spaced in a 10-point font, it wouldn't fit," TMHS coach John Byrnes said. "She's been knocking on the …

Tennis team stays hot with 4-1 victory over Billerica.
The Tewksbury High girls track team had some outstanding performances on Saturday at the highly competitive Andover Invitational Meet. The 4x100 meter relay team of Jen Schultz, Jess Bridle, Sarah Hogan and Erin Morrissey placed second in a time of 50.51 seconds. In doing so, they set a new Tewksbury High record. The old mark of 50.64 seconds was set back in 2007 by the team of Laurie Irvine, Ashley Smith, Lindsey Bowden, and Kristina Zontini. "We were very happy for those 4x100 kids. Erin Morrissey and Jen Schultz are sophomores, and they've never been part of a school record before, but they ran great. Morrissey's putting together a great season, and Schultz has proven to be very versatile between all three sprints," said Coach John …

Quigley wins three events to lead 94-50 rout.
You get the sense that the Tewksbury High girls track team may be peaking at just the right time. Kelly Quigley won three events and Matilda Matovu won two more to lead the Redmen to a 94-50 rout of MVC rival Methuen on Wednesday. Quigley won the triple jump (32-8), 100 hurdles (16.6) and 400 hurdles (68.7). Matovu won the shot put (31-9.75) and the discus (80-2.75). "Matilda Matovu really gave us a lift today. She took both throws and had her best performance of the season. Jim Burgoyne, our discus coach, mentioned to me afterwards that he really thinks Matilda has a world of potential in that event.," said Tewksbury Coach John Byrnes. "Kelly Quigley hit season's bests in all three of her events today. She really looks like she's …

TMHS girls blow out Dracut, 54-34; Petti nets two as hockey team ties Boston Latin; track teams show well at Freshman-Sophomore meet.
If you want to get an idea of how dramatically the Tewksbury High girls basketball team has improved over the last six weeks, just roll your calendar back to December 16th, when the Redmen, mired in an 0-6 start, lost a turnover-plagued, 48-40 decision to Dracut High on their own home court. On Friday night, that very same group of TMHS girls stormed into Dracut's house and slapped the unsuspecting Middies around in their own gym, taking a 54-34 victory. It was Tewksbury's fifth win in its last seven games. "We're playing way better, overall, as a team," head coach Mark Bradley said after Friday night's game. "The confidence is just getting better and better and better and that's nice to see. It was a total team effort tonight. It was a …

Bridle takes first at MSTCA Coaches Invitational; Jacintho wins shot put gold.
In four years of running track at Tewksbury High School, Jess Bridle has assembled a list of accomplishments that would rival any other track star in TMHS history. She has scored more points in dual meets than any sprinter in recent memory, and has run a leg on three different school record-setting relay teams. All that was missing was an individual school record for Bridle. Until Saturday. The Tewksbury High senior speedster put the exclamation point on her impressive running resume this past weekend, taking first place in the 300 meters at the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association's Invitational Meet at the Reggie Lewis Track and Field Center in Boston. Bridle blazed through the 300 in a school record time of 41.38 seconds, …

are you referring to the softball program? how could anyone say that the program is all politics and needs a serious change from the top to bottom - the varsity coach and his assistant and the jv coach have been the with program for years, especially Mr. Derroco. With the winning record that program has why would anyone change that? This is not a program that is hurting. This is a girls team that…   more ›
