Billerica and Tewksbury firefighters team to battle blaze.
A small, single-home at 5 Coolidge Road sustained significant damage as the result of a two-alarm fire early Tuesday morning. According to Fire Chief Mike Hazel, Billerica and Tewksbury firefighters responded to a report of a house fire around 1:30 a.m. The resident, who was asleep on the first floor at the time, was awoken by noises coming from the basement. With smoke beginning to fill the first floor, he immediately left the house. His cell phone was still inside, so he sought help from neighbors to call 911. After two unsuccessful attempts to rouse neighbors, he was able to get help at a neighbor's home that was just over the town line in Billerica. Fire had a strong head start before firefighters arrived at the scene.
A home at 176 Vernon St. sustained heavy damage as the result of a two-alarm fire, Friday afternoon. Neighbors called 911 to report the blaze at around 3:50 p.m., according to Deputy Fire Chief Al Vasas. According to town records, the home is owned by June C. Farese. No one was in the single-family ranch at the time the fire broke out. "It had a pretty good head start by the time we got here," said Vasas. According to Vasas, the fire appears to have started at the rear of the home or the back porch, where the heaviest damage was. The fire then quickly spread to the attack and burst through the roof.
