Caswell May Not Be Out Of The Legal Woods Quite Yet

U.S. Attorney has not ruled out the possibility of appealing court ruling.

Any thoughts Motel Caswell owner Russ Caswell had that he had seen the last of Federal Law Enforcement appear to be a bit premature. According to an article published on Bostonherald.com, U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz is considering appealing the decision by U.S. Magistrate Judge Judith Dein, who ruled that the Tewksbury motel was not subject to forfeiture, as argued by Ortiz' office. "I don't put anything past them," said Caswell. "As I said before, it's like they don't have anything better to do." Starting in 2009, the Department of Justice had attempted to seize the Motel Caswell and the property it sits on, arguing that there had been a long history of illegal activity at the motel, including drugs and prostitution, which Caswell knew …

Tewksbury Man, 5 Others Sentenced For Selling Drugs At VA Hospital

Distribution of illegal narcotics involved several substances.

(Editor's note: The following information was submitted by the office of the U.S. Attorney in Boston.) The final defendant, charged last year with five others, has been sentenced for his role in distributing controlled substances at the VA Medical Center in Bedford. Steven Jakaitis, 50, of Lowell, was sentenced today by Judge Richard Stearns to 15 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. In July 2012, Jakaitis pleaded guilty to distribution of buprenorphine and conspiracy to distribute oxycodone. In January 2012, Jakaitis was charged along with David DeJesus, 52, of Lowell; Scott Houtchens, 50, of Lowell; David Porterfield, 45, of Saugus; David Robson, 53, of Tewksbury; and Allen Nickerson, 52, of Dorchester…

Is Homeland Security Investigating A Theft At Raytheon's Tewksbury Plant?

Federal law enforcement, company officials tight-lipped regarding search warrant executed.

Federal law enforcement officials are investigating a theft of sensitive materials at a Massachusetts-based defense contractor. According to one Boston news station, he theft may have taken place at the Raytheon plant in Tewksbury.  U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement released the following statement on Monday: “HSI (Homeland Security Investigations) special agents executed a federal search warrant yesterday evening. Because it is sealed, no additional information is publicly available.” On Tuesday, ICE Spokesman Ross Feinstein said the agency would not be making further comment about the case and directed inquiries to the U.S. Attorney's office in Boston.
