Local hero to deliver keynote speech.
Major Stephen Flanagan, a Tewksbury native, will give the keynote speech for the town's annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Nov. 11 on the Town Common. Flanagan is a 1997 graduate of Tewksbury Memorial High School and graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2001 with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. For the past 10 years, Flanagan has served in US Army Infantry and Special Operations units. A two-time Bronze Star recipient, he has served three combat tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. He is presently working toward a graduate degree from Harvard University and will ultimately be assigned to teach at West Point. Hundreds attend ceremony on Town Common.
A touching personal testimony from Todd Johnson and a stirring keynote speech by Command Chief Master Sgt. Kenneth A. Williams highlighted a moving Veterans Day Ceremony on the Town Common Thursday. Johnson spoke of travelling, along with his brother-in-law, to the coast of France earlier this year to take his father-in-law to visit Utah Beach, where he'd participated in the Invasion of Normandy, along with Gen. George Patton's Third Army in June, 1944. Johnson spoke of visiting the graveyards containing the remains of thousands killed in the D-Day invasion, an event that turned the tide of World War II. Students bathe gymnasium in Red, White and Blue for powerful ceremony
Tewksbury High showed off its patriotism and reached out with open arms to local veterans with a powerful and moving ceremony on Wednesday. School Committee member Dennis Francis served as keynote speaker for the event and shared a touching personal account of an encounter with a Vietnam veteran that contributed to his desire to serve his country. A combination of music, testimony and the presence of numerous local veterans, including several faculty members, made for a memorable event.

The Tewksbury Patriotic Activities Committee is presenting the town's annual Veterans Day Remembrance Service on Thursday, Nov. 11, at 10:45 a.m. on Tewksbury Town Common. Tewksbury Veterans will place commemorative wreaths on all the War Memorials. Daniel Siracusa of The Siracusa Project will sing the National Anthem. The Tewksbury Swinging Seniors will entertain the crowd with patriotic songs. The Boy & Girl Scouts will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
