Casino Night At The VFW Friday Night

Event to benefit the Memorial Day Parade and Veterans Day Events.

The Friends of the Patriotic Activities Committee will be hosting a Casino Night on Friday, April 5, from 7:30 to 11 p.m. at the Tewksbury VFW on Vernon Street. Tickets to the event are $40 apiece. That will buy you chips to use at the various games and will give you a chance to win some awesome prizes! Games include roulette, blackjack and poker. Hors d'ouevres will be served and a cash bar will be available. Doors will open at 7 p.m. All proceeds will go to benefit the Memorial Day Parade and Veterans Day Ceremony.

UPDATED: Korean War Hero Endorses Scott Brown At Tewksbury VFW

Retired Navy Capt. Thomas J. Hudner is the oldest living Medal of Honor recipient from the Korean War.

If you're locked in a tight re-election campaign, the endorsement of a genuine American hero can't hurt. U.S. Senator Scott Brown was in Tewksbury on Monday for a campaign stop at the Tewksbury VFW. In addition to rallying support for Brown, local veterans also had the opportunity to honor retired Navy Capt. Thomas J. Hudner, the oldest living Medal of Honor recipient from the Korean War. Hudner, 87, publicly endorsed Brown in his bid for reelection, just as he had when Brown was first elected to the Senate in 2010. "I'm very proud of my time in the Navy and I believe in the need for a strong defense," said Hudner, who grew up in Fall River and has lived in Concord for more than 35 years. Selectmen's Notebook: Public Safety Grant, VFW Complaint

The chairman of the Tewksbury Board of Selectmen has asked two board members to meet with representatives of the _Tewksbury VFW_ and a local family to see if a neighborhood dispute can be resolved. Todd Johnson asked Selectmen Doug Seas and David Gay to serve on a subcommittee, specifically charged with attempting to resolve concerns raised by Bonnie and Marty Spiegal, whose home is located near the VFW building on Vernon Street. At the selectmen's Dec. 6 meeting, Johnson read from a letter of complaint submitted by the Spiegals, asking for an opportunity discus concerns about noise from the club and its hours of operation. Johnson said he wanted to see if bringing the parties together would result in an amicable resolution. If not, …

This week in Tewksbury History: In 1993, the largest business in Tewksbury to work was Raytheon. They employed 3,600 people. September 28, 1961 -- Mr. Wilfred Breen (Chairman of the Tewksbury Recreation Commission) announced the support of Edward ‘Ted” Kennedy, for Tewksbury long range program goals and their immediate aims of each playground. Mr. Kennedy had indicated a desire to be in attendance at the Tewksbury playgrounds the past summer, but a tour of Latin America made the visit impossible. VFW To Host Comedy Night To Benefit FOPAC

Second annual event to be hosted by Steve Bjork.

The venue will be different and the laughs will be fresh but the cause remains the same. The Tewksbury VFW, 87 Vernon St., will play host to the second annual Steve Bjork and Friends Comedy Night on Saturday, Sept. 24. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. The event is being organized to benefit the Friends of the Patriotic Activities Committee. FOPAC, a non-profit organization made up of local volunteers, raises money each year to fund community activities such as the Fourth of July Fireworks and the Memorial Day Parade. "The money we need to raise each year is about $30,000," said Jerry Selissen, president of FOPAC. "It can be a real challenge. We usually do about four of these events a year. Since its founding in 1946, Tewksbury’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8164 has continuously strived to change with the times in order to continue serving the veterans of Tewksbury and the surrounding communities. In 2007 a new leadership team was elected to lead the post.  Over the past 4 years that post leadership team developed and is implementing a plan to modernize the post and ensure its continuing ability to serve veterans and the community in the 21st century. A Full Schedule of Memorial Day Activities

A time of to remember sacrifice and celebrate community.

Tewksbury is prepared to celebrate Memorial Day with a full day of events scheduled, including meals, a parade and a memorial ceremony. The day begins with a Memorial Day breakfast offered by the Tewksbury Congregational Church. The annual event runs from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the church on 10 East St. A ceremony of remembrance will begin at 12:45 p.m. at the Tewksbury Cemetery on East Street. The guest speaker for the event is  Chief Master Sergeant Laura Noel, a vocalist and the band manager of the United States Air Force Band of Liberty,  and interim Electronic Systems Center Command Chief, at Hanscom Air Force Base. Jade, I was agreeing with you on most of your points. I grew up about 100 yards from that building and I can say with the exception of about 4 or 5 nights in my lifetime I have never heard a peep out of that building nor have I seen drunks peeing and wandering the neighborhood. Most of the trash you see comes from neighborhood kids that cut through the woods, drink beer back there or just play. …   more ›
