Today's Photo of the Day was sent in by Ken Miano, president of the Tewksbury Youth Basketball League. The Tewksbury Boys Basketball League honored one of their past players, home for a 10-day Christmas leave before being deployed to Afghanistan in January. Derek Temmallo, a member of the US Army, home for a brief visit with his family over Christmas, was awarded a plaque and game ball in appreciation for his service and dedication to his country and to take in a Senior Division Bucks game. Derek’s dad, Chris is the head coach of the team and his brother Robert is a player. With the approval of the Senior Division coaches, the league moved the schedule around in order to accommodate the event. Ken Miano, the Director of the TBBL, …

(Editor's note: The following information was submitted by the coaches and administrators of the Wamesit Warriors.) Tewksbury (Warriors) vs. Revere The 8th grade ‘A’ Wamesit Warriors from Tewksbury lost a high-scoring contest to Revere, by a final of 81-63. Turnovers on offense were the difference. Despite picking up a fourth foul to start the second half, limiting his minutes, Justin Derrah scored 32 points, to go along with double-figure rebounds. Ryan Briggs hot shooting, including three 3-point baskets, and 16 total points, helped keep things close, but it wasn’t enough. Other Warrior players getting into the scoring column were Brady Rodgers with 4 points, Devan Bere and Jack Theriault each with a 3-point jumper, Andrew White with a …

(Editor's note: The following information was submitted by the coaches and administrators of the Wamesit Warriors Basketball program.) Tewksbury (Warriors) vs. Saugus The 8th grade ‘A’ Wamesit Warriors from Tewksbury were not able to overcome a 32-16 foul discrepancy, having three players foul out, and a fourth player almost experiencing the same fate, in a close 55-48 loss to the Sachems from Saugus. Nick Dunlap scored 13 points, Ryan Briggs 15, and Justin Derrah a team-leading 16, with all three players knocking down 3-point bombs. Devan Bere made a three-point basket, and Jack Theriault played a solid all-around game. Connor McLean and Ryan Bain provided strong rebounding. (Editor's note: The following information was submitted by the coaches and the administrators of the TGBL.) JUNIOR LEAGUE MYSTICS 11 STARZZ 7 The Mighty Mystics played a rematch game from week 1 and were able to even the score by beating a very tough Starzz team. They came out with great determination and focus and led the whole game. This was a defensive battle for both teams and I have a feeling we will be seeing them again in the upcoming tournament. The Mystics have been playing great defense but more importantly they take pride in not allowing any inside points at all. Now we turn the page and look ahead to another rematch against the Comets. We played them way back in week 2 and that was the Mystics last loss. We are a much improved …

(Editor's note: The following information was submitted by the coaches and administrators of the TBBL.) Hawks 28 - Rockets 20 In an outstanding game for both teams, the Hawks came away with the hard fought 28-20 victory. The offensive scoring for the Rockets was shared amongst the team very well today with Cam Pereira scoring eight points, followed by Devin Stoddard and Logan Reinhard who had four points apiece, and Mahir Bagul and Michael Sullivan contributing two point each as well. Offensive execution as well as sharing the ball was the key to the Rockets offensive success. Jordan MacKenzie and Mahir Bagul did an exceptional job passing the ball which lead to several assists for each player. Jack Stadtman did a great job defensively…

(Editor's note: The following information was submitted by the coaches and administrators of the Tewksbury Boys Basketball League Travel program.) Lowell 33 Tewksbury 5th Grade Red 29 Tewksbury started out slow and Lowell took advantage to jump out to a 15-6 lead about mid-way through the first half. After a time out the boys picked up their defense, spearheaded by Kyle Rossetti, Chad Boschetti, CJ Zemetres, Riley Frost and Zach Tyler. This unit caused many turnovers which lead to easy baskets; they also settled down the offense and worked many plays for easy baskets. The next group came in, following the last groups effort and were able to go into the break tied 15-15. The second half saw a game that had many lead changes and it became a…
