Thrilling Division 3 meet came down to a tiebreaker and proved that winning a cross country championship takes contributions from everyone on your roster.
It's easy to see cross country as an individual sport. Athletes run at their own pace, trying for personal best times. And the vast majority of runners spend their race staring at the back of another runner's jersey. But when it comes to winning championships, cross country is every bit as much a team sport as baseball, soccer or field hockey. Tewksbury High proved that earlier this month when they hoisted the Division 3 State Championship trophy following a thrilling meet in Wrentham. It was the Redmen's first-ever cross country state title. Corey Thomas led the way for Tewksbury, placing 6th overall in the 162-runner field in 16:20 over the 5K course. Fellow senior Brian Amaral placed 10th in 16:28. But it would take strong performances …

Tewksbury High harriers each win one and lose two against Methuen, North Andover and Chelmsford.
Boys Cross Country Chelmsford 20, Tewksbury 41 Methuen 25, Tewksbury 30 Tewksbury 18, North Andover 39 Tewksbury's Brian Amaral once again proved that he is one of the top runners in the MVC but the overall team results for the Redmen were mixed as they took on Methuen, Chelmsford and North Andover in an MVC triple-dual meet on the 2.8 mile course at Methuen High. Tewksbury blasted North Andover (18-39) but fell to Methuen (25-30) and Chelmsford (20-41) to drop to 2-4 on the season. Amaral had another strong race, placing second overall in a time of 14:36, just nine seconds off the winning time. Cory Thomas ran well and placed 10th overall for the Redmen in 15:44. Nick Souza put together a strong race, placing 14th overall in 15:56. Girls …

TMHS girls team takes fourth overall, boys take fifth at MVC League Meet.
Two of Tewksbury High's grande dames went out in style and two new stars emerged as league champions as the TMHS girls track team captured four individual championships and one relay title at the Merrimack Valley Conference Championship Meet at Andover High School Thursday evening. Senior sprinter Sarah Hogan shook off adversity and captured her first ever league title with an electrifying win in the 100 meter dash, while super speedster Jess Bridle added the 200 meter championship to her lengthy list of accomplishments. Meanwhile, sophomores Kelly Quigley and Sara Semenza each earned their first career MVC Championship gold medals; Quigley by winning the 400 meter hurdles title and Semenza by capturing the 400 meter dash title. To cap off…

Bridle, Hogan, Jacintho, Amaral, Fiorello and Thomas are the bright spot as boys fall, 54-32, girls lose 62-23.
With both the Tewksbury High boys and girls track teams having lost tons of talent to graduation, the last thing coaches Bill Meuse and Peter Molloy needed was to match up against a talented and deep Central Catholic team on opening day. The schedule maker was not kind, and the results, predictably, fell mostly Central's way as Tewksbury's normally dominant track program suffered a rare double loss. The boys came up short, 54-32, while the girls also fell, 62-23 in the opening meet for both squads. BRIDLE, HOGAN, JACINTHO SHINE IN GIRLS MEET Senior captains Jess Bridle and Sarah Hogan both scored big wins in the 55-meter dash and the 300 meters, respectively, while Lisetta Jacintho won the shot put to lead the Tewksbury effort. Bridle took…

TMHS records first winning record since 1993; wins first MVC Div. 2 Championship since 2006.
As early as last spring, Tewksbury High boys cross country coach Peter Molloy suspected he had a group of distance runners on his hands who were capable of doing great things. Brian Amaral ran a personal best 4:41.46 in the mile at the Merrimack Valley Conference championship meet last May. Kip Horahan ran a personal best 4:53.35 that day. Cory Thomas clocked a PR in the two-mile in 10:34.76. Brendan Blair and Tim Conklin also recorded late season PRs in the mile as well. "We kind of started talking about it in the spring," Molloy said. "I started saying, 'If you guys do your work this summer, imagine what cross country could be like next fall.' And you could tell they were all about it." The end result was a season full of milestones for …
