High School Sports Roundup

Girls Track Team Downs Lawrence and NDA

Softball team bounces back, baseball team falls.

Junior speedster Jess Bridle was a triple winner as the Tewksbury High Girls' track team added two more wins to its list of conquests, easily besting both Notre Dame Academy and Lawrence High School Wednesday afternoon in Tyngsboro. Tewksbury topped NDA, 121-23 and crushed Lawrence, 132-7 to raise its Merrimack Valley Conference record to 3-0. Bridle won the 100-meter dash in 13.0, and the long jump in 15-feet, 7-inches before running the second leg on Tewksbury's winning 4x100-meter relay team. Bridle's 15-7 long jump represented a personal best, and she did it in only two tries. "That's the best long jump we've had in five years, and she only had two shots at it," TMHS coach John Byrnes said. "She was running the 100, running the 4x100 …

I'll bet that it was a pleasant ride home for the TMHS boys. I'm sure Napoleon had a few choice words for them. I wonder who the whipping boy is this year? Get well soon Chris.   more ›

Gritty Performance Not Enough for Tewksbury Boys Lacrosse

Redmen erase three-goal Wilmington lead in closing minutes before falling in overtime on Friday.

It was just like Wilmington High School boys lacrosse head coach Mike Fay taught it, except the complete opposite. No matter how it looked, the result was still the same – a game-winning overtime goal for Trevor Foley. Tewksbury High erased a three-goal deficit in the final six minutes on Friday, including a tally with less than one second remaining in regulation to tie the score. But Foley swatted home a loose ball right off the ground rather than scooping it up, and the Wildcats earned a dramatic 12-11 road victory. “It’s funny because I team them to pick the ball up and don’t flick it,” said Fay, whose charges are now 5-2 on the year. “(Foley is) a hockey player, and his tendency is to make the play and win the game. We’re fortunate.” …

Successful Opening Day For TMHS Girls Track Team

Girls beat Lowell in opener, boys team falls to Lowell by three points.

If the rest of the Merrimack Valley Conference held out hope that the lack of any training facilities or any home meets was going to slow down the Tewksbury High girls track team this spring, those hopes were dashed in a hurry on Wednesday. Jess Bridle and Lisetta Jacintho won two events each while Andrea Caprio and Sarah Hogan also recorded impressive wins as the Tewksbury High girls thumped Lowell, 84.25-60.75 in the season's opener for both clubs at Cawley Stadium. "It's a tough to predict what you have going into the first meet of any season," TMHS head coach John Byrnes said. "But considering how little we've been on the track before today, we had no idea what to expect. So we're real happy with the results we got. "This is a team …
