Selectmen Create Public Events And Celebrations Committee

Interested residents are invited to apply for positions on the new committee.

Through the course of the campaign seasons, several candidates have mentioned the desire to see more community-based events and greater resident involvement. The Board of Selectmen may have killed two birds with one stone at their meeting this week, with the formation of the Town Public Events and Celebrations Committee. According to the description crafted by Town Manager Richard Montuori, the committee will be "charged with planning and carrying out the proper observation of patriotic and civic holidays and special town events as the board may designate from time to time." Among the events the group will oversee will be the Lighting of the Common in December, the Memorial Day Ceremonies and the July 4th Celebration. While the committee …

Jerry retired last year...so some people on the Committee have been trying to still fundraise thru the year...aka, Casino night last week. Doesnt sound very organized...i hope to get involved more either way, but hoping the Selectmen step forward at the Fundraisers also.   more ›

Lighting of the Common, Festival of Trees Kick Off Holiday Season Tonight!

Tewksbury to officially usher in Christmas 2012 with 25th Annual Lighting of the Common.

Tewksbury will officially kick off the 2012 Holiday Season on Friday, Nov. 30 with the 25th Annual Lighting of the Common. The event coincides with the annual Festival of Trees at the Tewksbury Public Library and the annual Pie Social at the Tewksbury Congregational Church. Lighting of the Common The Lighting of the Common begins at 7 p.m. and features music by "The Swinging Seniors," a greeting by Board of Selectmen Chairman David Gay and the reading of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" by Library Director Dianne Giarusso. And, of course, the highlight of the event for the younger Tewksbury residents will be the arrival of Santa Claus! Tewksbury To Kick Off Holiday Season This Weekend

Lighting of the Common, festival of trees and a pie social on tap for Friday night.

The Town of Tewksbury will officially kick off the 2011 Christmas Season with a full schedule of community events this weekend. The highlight of the weekend is the annual Lighting of the Common, which will take place Friday, Dec. 2, starting at 7 p.m. This year's event will follow a slightly different schedule, as the lights on the common will be lit at the start of the festivities, right at 7 p.m. The event will feature the Swinging Seniors Chorus, who will perform "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," "Deck The Halls," "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer," "Here Comes Santa Claus" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."
