Old Man Winter is getting one last punch in and he's making it a nasty one.
A winter storm warning will remain in effect for the Merrimack Valley through 8 p.m. this evening (March 19), with 6-10 inches of snow and a thin layer of ice in the forecast. According to the National Weather Service, snow will be heavy at times throughout the day, but it will also be mixed with sleet and freezing rain, making for a treacherous morning commute. Winds will be 10-20MPH through the day with gusts up to 30MPH. Temperatures will hover in the low 30s. Tewksbury Public Schools have been cancelled for the day. A steady snowfall has slowed some morning commutes through Tewksbury today, with traffic still a problem for many out on the roads. Several spinouts and minor accidents have been reported. Cause of multiple-truck accident is under investigation.
Traffic on in the northbound lane of Route 495 remains backed up for miles in the wake of a crash involving three tractor-trailers in Tewksbury. The accident took place just after 6:30 a.m. between the exits for Route 38 and Route 133. No injuries have been reported, according to a report on NECN.com. The crash created a huge mess, as empty paint cans and rice was strewn all over the highway, according to a report by WCVB-Ch. 5. One of the trucks was rear-ended, while another was run off the highway. Commuters are being advised to seek alternate routes.
