Police, Residents Attend Officer Sean Collier's Wake

Hundreds came to Stoneham Monday afternoon to pay their respects to the late MIT officer.

Flags at half-staff, a police caravan leading a hearse and the Patriot Guard Riders lining Main Street in Red, White and Blue. A long, almost silent trail of mourners waiting to enter a local funeral home and a row of TV news trucks. Bystanders and passersby no longer have to ask, “What happened?” “What’s going on?” They know. It’s a scene that’s become all too familiar – Sunday in Medford, Monday in Stoneham and at Boston University and soon in Dorchester. On Monday in Stoneham, police paid respects to one of their own, 27-year-old Sean Collier, an officer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who was shot and killed Thursday night in his police car. Man Revived During Bruins Practice in Wilmington Terry Gardner was at Ristuccia Arena with a few of his friends to watch the Boston Bruins take the ice for practice. But he was hard at work before long. Gardner was among the group of on and off duty emergency personnel who saved the life of a man who had a cardiac episode in the stands on Thursday morning. Bruins players, who had just taken the ice in Wilmington, took a knee along the boards in front of the benches and watch as several professionally trained first responders rushed into the stands and used a defibrillator to shock the man back to consciousness. Searchers Reunite Missing Child With Her Parents A North Reading family is breathing a sigh of relief this morning after missing daughter was located safe and sound. The child, an 8-year-old with Down Syndrome, had been reported missing Saturday morning. North Reading Police requested the help of area law enforcement agencies for help with the search, which began in the area of Spruce Road. Anyone driving through the town center knows that traffic can be particularly difficult, especially during peak hours, but recently that traffic has spilled off onto Billerica Road with a police detail limiting portions of the road to only one lane. One Chelmsford Patch reader e-mailed us asking what was going on, and we found out what folks living in the area found out in the mail. Tewksbury Man And His Dog Injured In Wilmington Pit Bull Attack

Dog owner agrees to euthanize dog after attack near Silver Lake on Saturday.

A pit bull will be euthanized after two men, including one from Tewksbury, were injured attempting to break up a fight between their dogs Saturday on Main Street. According to police, the Tewksbury resident was walking his dog around Silver Lake when a pit bull broke free of its chain and began attacking his dog. The man was transported with significant but non-life threatening injuries to his head and neck, suffered while trying to stop the fight. The owner of the pit bull also sustained injuries while trying to break up the dog fight. Wilmington Animal Control Officer Ellen Sawyer said the injuries to each man came from his own dog as they tried to break up the pair. “He knew enough not to get in the middle, but when you hear your dog …
