Wynn Students' Plea: Don't Take Away Our Semi-Formal!

Students upset over decision to change end-of-the-year tradition to a "tie-dye" dance.

Rachel Bradley, Nicole Liggiero and other 8th graders at the Wynn Middle School don't feel like they are asking for a lot. They just want their dance back. Specifically, they are hoping school officials reverse a decision to change the traditional 8th Grade end-of-the-year celebration from a semi-formal to a "Tie-Dye" dance. Rachel said she first heard rumors about the change a month ago. The rumors were conformed when a school-wide e-mail went out a few weeks later. "It's just really disappointing," she said. "(The Semi-Formal) is pretty important to us. It's been a tradition for so many years. We love to get dressed up -- all the sparkly clothing." Nicole, whose two older sisters both attended Wynn 8th Grade semi-formals, said she was …

Historical Society Presents "A Patriotic Alarm"

Patriotic play to be performed at the Wynn School.

(Editor's note: The following infroamtion was submitted by Historical Society President David Marcus.) f you do not know who the fellow is on the Tewksbury Town Seal, don't feel bad.  He is Tewksbury's most famous out-of-town visitor!  You will see him in action in the "NEW" TEWKSBURY PATRIOTIC PLAY".  He came from Cambridge, Medford, or Woburn.  No one knows who he was but he was one of many Alarm Riders just as Paul Revere and William Dawes were.  The Alarm Riders were not armed because if arrested by Advance British Regulars that night, April 18th, 1775, they would have arrested him for armed treason to the King of England and New England. We were British back then in 1775 and April 18th were the last day we were British because on …

Don't Throw It Out, Bring It To Zero Waste Day!

Tewksbury's 4th Annual Zero Waste Day is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Wynn Middle School.

It's not exactly Christmas but for Loretta Ryan and Beth McFadyen, it's pretty close. On Saturday, Sept. 22, Ryan and McFadyen, along with a team of volunteers and representatives from more than a dozen non-profit organizations will be at the Wynn Middle School, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for Tewksbury's 4th Annual Zero Waste Day. On the Zero Waste Day web site, the event is described as a "drive thru donating and recycling event held annually to provide residents with a quick and easy way to pass along items that they no longer need." But there is an added bonus. When they bring items to Zero Waste Day, people are donating them to a variety of non-profit agencies, helping thousands of families throughout the Merrimack Valley and Eastern Mass…

Agree! I have been saving up items waiting for this day. My favorite donation charity is the Wish Project but I can't seem to ever get there when they are open. I love how this event has people who take electronics, old tires, furniture, baby items, furniture, bikes, etc. I am already noting what I missed to donate at the next event!   more ›

> Only time will tell if the best choice was made. Sure, I am willing to try that. We gave really long time for our local talent to bring up the school ranking. Most likely, it can't get any worse. It also create pressure to perform/show_results as they do in the corporate world. More such choices might stop the exodus of parents from Tewksbury to Andover/Westford. In fact, it might reverse; …   more ›

Where Is It?

This Mystery Photo Proved To Be A Challenge

Only two readers were able to figure it out.

This one proved to be difficult. Only two readers correctly guessed the location of the mystery photo this week. We had a variety of incorrect guesses, ranging from Town Hall to the Fire Station, to the DPW Headquarters. But the correct answer is the sign at the entrance to Griffin Way and Wynn Middle School. Congratulations to both correct guessers and a special congratulations to Atty. John Froio, whose name was selected to win an Applebee's Gift Card.
