On the article How Do Moms Know When Kids Are Old Enough?

I'd like to point out that when I was presented with the "format" for this column is was titled "life in the mom lane" and, therefore, meant to be written from a mom's point of view. That is not to say that Dad's aren't equally as important as moms, just to say that I am not, by any means, able to speak as one. I would be doing dads a disservice if I tried. At no point have I ever made a negative comment regarding dads in my writing and promise that I never will! In the past, Matt and I have both put out the call for a "Dad Blog" with no real success. I'd like to suggest that you send me an email here on PATCH and perhaps we can sit down over coffee. I would love to interview you for a "special life in the mom lane" filled with your opinions from a dads point of view. In the past I wrote Life in the Mom Lane, Sometimes you just have to laugh" which featured advice from a stand up comedian/dad/grandfather and it full of terrific advice. Please drop me a line and let me know when you are available.

ReplyLisa, the Pop Warner Field is being sprayed this evening. In addition a letter has been sent to all participants regarding a time change which will have them off the field before dusk. Parents are also being encouraged to use mosquito spray prior to practice and send extra for additional applications if needed.

Thank you both for your comments and support. While I am not on board with a longer day you definitely make valid points, J.R. There would absolutely need to be a trade off with less homework and longer lunch periods as well as study periods would be a tremendous benefit. I am, however, a HUGE fan of gym class and wish that students were able to have it more, not less, often. I was actually involved in a pilot program for "gifted and talented" students in the 1970's here in Wilmington and would love to see something similar in the school system today. Oh, and as for a late bus, I, too, would like to see it brought back. Bernie, I completely agree that we are both examples of the success of the Wilmington School System over the years. We are among the few people in town who can say that we were a part of the Boutwell School when it was grades 1 - 5. Truly an amazing experience!
