Rob relax man, why would you think I have a problem with you responding to a post? We have had a lively discussion throughout the day haven't we? Is it impossible for you to show some mutual respect and agree to disagree. I respect your opinions even if I do not agree.

Rob what I meant when I said the fire dept. has and always will be there for us I meant no matter what happens down the road. Whatever size and shape the fire department ends up being next year and the year after that we will always answer the call to the best of our ability. For the time being the station is open until future plans can be ironed out and I share that desire with you wholeheartedly. That is sincere Rob believe me or not it doesn't matter.

Rob you just can't let it go. Find someone else to discuss this with I tried to leave on a somewhat positive note but I guess I can't do that right either.

I meant Red, but I guess Rob and Red, we can respectfully agree to disagree. I hate to argue it is exhausting, important enough to do it though.

ReplyThis was definitely a lively debate today, wow! We will have disagreements but one thing is certain the fire department has and always will be there for us all. I do not have any ill feelings for anyone on here because I know this is a passionate topic to discuss right now, and there are many ways to view it. This did get pretty contentious at times today and that is unfortunate. Passionate people tend to get carried away.

Cecil I am free to speak my mind just like you. Things were said at a dept head meeting that I personally believe were "scare tactics". Conduct unbecoming that is a riot. Terminated for expressing what I believe to have occurred and with good reason from reliable sources. I do not have to share any details with you. I have no integrity honor or morals. Yeah, ok, you are the all knowing Cecil. You can some up my entire character based on this issue, you are an amazing human being. Somebody asked for a possible reason why the police stood against the amendment and I gave my opinion as to why that may be. It is an opinion Cecil!

Red if only it were that simple. Every dept in town has a different contract with different working conditions, staffing requirements safety measure etc. One contract is not a blue print for the town. You heard selectman Wilson say himself this a complex issue to try and solve. Negotiations are under way give it time. Historically it is the fire department who has always signed a contract first. First time the fire contract is in arbitration and all of a sudden we are unreasonable to work with. Let the process play out, it will come to an end.

Red how many times can this be said it is not about the money. Hire more firefighters, look into a private ambulance do whatever it takes to have three fire engines staffed and ready to roll out the door. Until that happens the operational model in place is what we have to work with. Stop blaming the firefighters for creating this mode of operation. We were given this operational model and then it was financially stripped, and we are still expected to get the job done.

Rob I'll answer your question and then be done because I'm sure you would like an answer. I hate the fact that the veterans agency was cut as well as the DPW. Probably 50% or more of the fire department were in the military. I have friends at the DPW as well and they do a provide a valuable service to the town. I don't think that had to happen. The money could have come from the stabilization fund for next year while the issues are continuously being worked out and I am confident, hopeful a situation like this won't need to happen again. It is history now Rob so let's turn to the future and think positively.
