On the article Pair Arrested After Allegedly Stealing Formula and Fleeing

ReplyYup, lots of supermarkets keep the formula locked up at the front of the store and it has to be asked for because it's stolen all the time. If the "girl" had a legitimate need, she should be able to get WIC to get formula.

ReplyThe celebration was really nice! My son and I enjoyed it, got to talk to people from town, and gathered some great information from the Tewksbury Rail Trails, Tewksbury Garden Club, and Farmer Dave's. My son was enchanted by the alpacas and loved the face painting.

On the article Tewksbury's Ken Mackey Opens Another Orange Leaf In Acton
LLH

ReplyI like Orange Leaf and congratulations to Mr. Mackey on a new store. However, I have to wonder how long until the froyo craze crashes and burns? There's the Orange Leaf in Tewksbury, Acton, Andover, Danvers, and probably more. There's Zinga in North Andover, the Yo Bite in Chelmsford, and Liberty something or other in Billerica... I haven't been to all these stores but I've seen them driving around. I remember once upon a time when Krispy Kremes franchises were springing up on every corner where I used to live until they all folded.
It just seems like too much yogurt too fast, but I'm clearly no business expert.

On the article Election Notebook: The Results Are In And We Have The Winners

ReplyI want to pipe up on the new resident front because this was my first Tewksbury election. I scoured the Patch and Sun websites for information and didn't have much of a feel for the candidates. I wasn't able to attend any of the public meetings (temporarily disabled spouse and young children) and my family didn't bother getting cable when we moved so no public access TV.
I did vote, I was met with snark at the Senior Center when I didn't realize there was a presinct 1 *and* 1A and I didn't know which one was mine. After an exasperated sigh and looking up of my street I was told with an annoyed gesture of where to go.
Way to welcome the new kid, Tewksbury.
Additionally, I asked my husband if he felt like going out on crutches to vote and his response was, "There's an election?" He doesn't read the Patch and apparently yard signs weren't enough to register with him. Ultimately he decided it wasn't worth the pain of a car ride to vote for people he knew nothing about.

Yes, Beatrice. I have a child at the Ryan School in Extended Day and a little one in a daycare preschool and I believe when I tallied up the figure for taxes it was around $19,000 this year.
It was even more expensive when the little one was in a toddler or infant classroom.

On the article Summer Camp Guide For Massachusetts and New Hampshire

ReplyMy son attended Camp Cody in Freedom, NH last summer when he was 10 and absolutely loved it! We were lucky enough to win his slot through Essex Elementary's PTO auction for a fraction of the regular price, and he had an amazing experience. Essex is having their annual auction again next month and they've told me they've got another Camp Cody slot for a *first time camper* so we are not eligible to bid.
If you're considering sending your kid to camp it may be worthwhile to bid if Cody appeals to you, we ended up paying less than we would have for the YMCA's summer camp.
And no, I have no vested interest other than a friend-of-a-friend told me about last year's Essex Elementary PTO auction, we won the Camp Cody slot, and my son had the most amazing time.

Townie, I believe your family has been lucky to escape the scourge of addiction. I would not wish it on any family. Lauren very articulately stated the realities of addiction in her post. My military father and SAHM were not able to keep my brother from addiction's grips. And yes, he like so many others made the decision to start using as a teen.
I think instead of pointing fingers and criticizing you'd be better served learning more about how most parents try everything in their power to help their child (regardless of age) overcome addiction and how futile it is in many cases. Again, Lauren touched on this in her post.
I highly recommend "Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey through His Son's Addiction" by David Sheff and "Addict in the Family" by Beverly Conyers.
