ReplyMark, I stand corrected ST does not give out our address or phone number. I have already posted it on Mr. Kelly's Lunch page. (978) 851-4436 and jpdowning2@verizon.net. Give me a call if I can help you with anything. Since I never look myself up, I didn't realize that the info was not there. I have no problem with anyone having it.

Hi Bee Free, Shaw Tech was about 12 years old when I began on the board. It is over 40 now. I have seen it go through many changes to become an exceptional educational facility. I certainly feel as though I was part of the process.
Programs change to meet the needs and employment opportunities of the students. There are 10 members of the committee, 2 from each of the 5 towns. The members have always worked well together and are always looking to make improvements in the school. No one grandstands or tries to be the "hero". We are not trying to be TV stars............we meet to do what is best for our students and our towns. I feel that the board has created a positive learning invironment where teachers like to teach and children like to learn. -

Shawsheen Tech goes about its business providing an excellent education to its students in a quiet and professional manner. I have received 2 phone calls in my 28 years on the board. Both attempted to provide a slot to a student who did not meet the requirements and had not been accepted. There is no way that my concience would allow me to deprive a deserving student his rightful place at the school. This political challenge is the end result of my decision.

Shawsheen Tech presented the proposal for the new Science Wing to the Finance Committee and the Town Manager detailing all of the financial requirements of the Town of Tewksbury. The Town Manager presented the information to the Selectmen who determined that a Special Town Meeting was not necessary. The proposal was accepted as presented.

Hi Bob, The meetings are not taped, so they are not shown in any of the 5 towns. I would support taping and airing the meetings in all the member communities. Once the minutes are approved I would support putting them on line on the website. They are public record.
To answer the other part of your question, newspaper reporters can attend whenever they wish. It is up to their editors to send them.
If I can answer anything else for you, you can call or email me at 978-851-4436 or email me at jpdowning2@verizon.net. Peter

Jane, The Shawsheen Tech Committee is made up of 10 members, 2 from each of the 5 towns. The criteria for admission was submitted to the state, at its request, to find a fair and equitable process for all students. All techs have a similar system in place. It is based on grades ( a student receives points for all passing grades ), attendance, conduct, a recommendation from the Middle School Guidance Dept. and an interview with the Shawsheen Tech Guidance Dept. From accumulated points, a list is developed for acceptance. The one thing that the Middle School needs to stress is that all 4 quarters of the 7th grade and 2 quarters of the 8th grade year are part of the formula.
