This Week in Tewksbury History

This Week in Tewksbury History provides a brief history lesson of important (mostly) local history whose anniversaries fall this week.

1772
Tewksbury hired its first female teacher. A woman by the name of Lucy Needham who was paid 16 shillings a month, which is equal to about 80 present day dollars.

2010
The Tewksbury High boys soccer beat Lowell for the first time in nearly 20 years!

Unfortunately on September 19, 2010 the Patriots lost to the NY Jets, however if you were watching you were winning with 25 cent wings. Every NFL game day they offered this special.

1961
The week of September 23, 1961 Purity foods had a Lamb Sale! All cuts and sizes were on sale, including Oven Ready spring lamb for 57 cents a pound. Whats your favorite way to eat lamb? Here's one of my favorites: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/4-hour-lamb-recipe/index.html

1986
This week in 1986, had a few sales that we sometimes still see today! Coca-Cola 2 liter bottles for 99 cents and Pillsbury Brownie Mix for 99 cents. However they had a few that we can only dream about: King Size Dawn dish soap for $1.49, half gallons of Farm Valley apple juice for 99 cents and Chef Boy Ar Dee for almost half of its current cost, a mere 59 cents a can.
