Elected Officials Statewide Pledge Support for Market Basket Boycott

More than three dozen state representatives, senators and mayors have pledged their support for Market Basket employees and are asking their colleagues to do the same.

From mayors to state representatives and state senators, more than 30 elected officials from across Massachusetts have now expressed their support for Market Basket employees asking their colleagues to join them in the Market Basket boycott.

In a statement released Monday afternoon, the 37 elected officials say they stand today with the thousands of employees who have walked out of their jobs protesting the firing of their beloved CEO Arthur T. Demoulas.

"These employees know that Market Basket has been the chosen supermarket of so many people looking to save money on groceries," the statement says. "They know that the leadership of Arthur T. Demoulas is the reason Market Basket has been able to keep prices low while delivering quality products to mainly underserved areas. The current actions of the board and officers is one motivated by corporate greed and will only serve to destroy the legacy the Demoulas family has worked generations to establish.
